Default Starting a New League. (Help)

There is a new KEEPER fantasy league starting this weekend where the 30 teams are auctioned off and from that point on you own all players on the team.

The teams which have dominated in terms of player points cost a lot more than much worse teams (i.e. the Senators cost 6 times as much as the Blue Jackets) which evens things out a bit.

Which team would bid on? How much would you bid? and WHY?

Bet the farm on Pittsburgh. I like Buffalo as well, they should continue to put up big numbers, as a team. Los Angeles is also a stud factory and they could be cheaper, and if you get the prospects as well this has the potential to be a veritable gold mine. Chicago\'s got a lot of good young players coming and could be pretty pretty quickly. You could also look at a team that under-achieved last year such as Carolina. I\'m assuming you get the team and the prospects from now on. That makes Washington a good team as well.

I agree that you eiter break the bank on Pittsburgh or see if you can steal LA for cheap.

If that doesn\'t work:
Nashville might be good value depending on how the bidding goes.
Montreal could be under a few peoples radar and they are looking OK down the road.
Florida has a few decent players and you could probably get them cheap. Same could be said about the Blues.

Pittsburg is the obvious pick, bet it all on them. If not hmmm.... LA and St.Louis have good young squads with great potential, maybe washinton with semin backstrom Nylander, and this guy named AO.

The obvious choices are pittsburgh, l.a., washington, chicago...

But if you don\'t have a top five choice, you likely won\'t get them... so instead of repeating those ones, I\'ll give you some good \"sleeper\" teams to pick up that many people might not immediately consider.

1) atlanta - hossa, kovalchuk, kozlov, lehtonen, little, etc... this team has some young studs at almost every position.

2) boston - savard, bergeron (still only 22!), chara, kessel, rask... this team again has young guys and fairly young (still producing) vets.

These two teams would be great pickups if you aren\'t blessed with an extremely early pick.

Thanks guys!
It\'s actually an auction style draft. So every team comes up for bid.
I\'m a huge Blackhawks fan so I\'ll probably end up paying whatever for Chicago.
I live in Eastern Ontario so I\'m expecting Montreal and Toronto to get bids which are way too high.
The Pens will come up on the table before Chicago so (unless they\'re cheap) I probably won\'t bid too highly on them

What is your scoring system? Are goalies somewhat valuable in this pool? I\'m interested in knowing how this pool is scored because it would change things considerably. Also, you can see from responses in this thread that Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh, etc probably won\'t sneak in under the radar so don\'t be afraid to grab a team like Anaheim or Detroit. They could win it all for you this year plus they have some good young talent.

Also, try not to be one of the last few people still bidding on a team as you\'ll probably end up having to overpay for the \'least worst\' team left.

Goalies count 1 point for a win and an extra point for a shutout (basically they count the same as a defenseman)

All other players count 1 point for each point.

We actually just had the draft and I got the Hawks for $60 which I\'m happy about.

The highest bid was the Pens for $210 not including the base salary.

Pitts, Wash and Chi will probably go pretty high, if you can snag LA you would be doing good. an eastern team you might get cheaper that would be still good is Buffalo. Price might drop because Drury and Briere are gone but they are still a great young team, just something to think about.
