I\'ve been negotiating a deal for a little while now in an attempt to balance my team a little better. Positional requirements are in effect and right now my team is a little bit thin on defence.
I have been offered Francois Bouchard and one of either Zidlicky or Beauchemin and I\'d be giving up Wolski and Bergfors Bouchard for Bergfors seems to be a decent deal for me, I like Bouchard marginally better, but I\'m not sure I want to give away Wolski. I think he\'s a bit inconsistent at times but has the potential to still be a pretty solid player in the league. And which defenseman (if this deal should even be done at all) would be the better bet. It is a keeper league. |

If I had to choose between the two defensemen (ignoring the other asects of the deal) I\'d go with Zidlicky. He has far more offensive upside and is in his prime and will give you another 3-4 years of solid production.

Interesting. Timmo left and Neids likely retiring (opportunity for both)- Zids kinda underperforming the last couple of years - Beauchemin injured for a long stretch.
Normally I would pick Zids by a margin and hope for a return to form - however he is sitting in a pool of young up and coming D stars, whereas Beauchemin is going to get some sweet ass time on the PP with Pronger and likely become a critical piece in the Ducks D - he was already but now things escalate in light of Neids. Wolski might be hot and cold but lots of latent talent and young and on a team that looks like it is coming back to the fore. Straight up choice between Zids and Beauchemin - I would take Beauchemin, but not by a lot. Would I do this deal? That too is a close call - I think I would look at all options for keeping Wolski or at least getting a little more for him. It kinda sounds like that you are not really in the driver\'s seat in this trade and you have maximized negotiations with this team. Any other options out there or do you have to decide on this one in order to beef up your D? Anyway you can add a sweetner to get both Zids and Beauchemin?

I possibly could, though I have another trade brewing which would likely net me MA Bergeron. With Bergeron and one of Beauchemin and Zidlicky I will have drastically upgraded my defense without actually giving away too much for my forward lineup.
Beauchemin would maybe be considered the better defensive option as well? (as far as +/-,blocked shots etc goes) All that being said, I\'m in no way locked into this deal. I can still pare it down simply to the Bouchard for Bergfors deal which I really like anyways. And then afterwards I can maybe try and swing something else for one of the defenseman. |

I think Zidlicky is your best bet here. Even if Nieds does retire, they got Schneider for just that reason...to play with Prongs on the PP, and thats where he will be, and Beachemin will see some seconday PP time.
In Nashville, they have some up and comers for sure, but Zidlicky will be on the 1st PP unit as a stabalizing force with Weber and he will rebound this year.... Take Zids over Beau |

Dynamo makes a good argument - particularly for this year. Zids certainly has more name recognition and if push came to shove in terms of moving him later if he bounces back - you definitely have a more readily traded asset.
Either way the crux of the matter comes down to is either guy worth Wolski? Probably - especially if you have the forward depth to move Wolski out. I do think he will have a pretty good year. I think the Avs are going to do okay.

Quote:
If you can acquire a D-man via another deal, this is what I\'d recommend. If you can, you should try to acquire Corey Murphy, he may be able to be had for cheap, as he hasn\'t played in the NHL yet, so not too many others know about him (unless they are regulars to this site). I hope this has helped, good luck. Post edited by: Nehithaw, at: 2007/08/22 03:08 |
