Default Gerber vs Auld

Curious what those in Ottawa are hearing re: Gerber vs Auld? Should I be concerned that Gerber could lose the starting spot after two games?

Thanks

Most people would say no. But I\'m telling you YES! Auld is the next goalie to take over a #1 job. I said it before the season even began. Gerber is a terrible goalie. just terrible. Auld isn\'t great but he reminds me a lot of emery. Big covers lot of net. He will be #1 in less then a month.

I wouldn\'t be that concerned... yet.

Even during the game the annoucners were talking about how Ottawa doesn\'t play again until next weekend than has three or four days off before they play again. It just sounds like they wanted to get Auld a start so he doesn\'t go 3 weeks without playing.

Auldy has been a bit of a fantasy cock tease in the past, for example, in 05/06 he started off hot with the Panthers before crashing out the rest of the year.

With that said, I think he will wrangle himself into a platoon situation. Gerber is in his contract year, so expect him to fight to the bitter end for a good contract.

honestly auld is exactly what the senators need unspectacular but solid goaltending. if you watched the game you could see auld was much more focused and poised. gerber on the other hand is inconsistent giving upo a goal on the first shot and the last. also the goals he gives are just absolutely dreadful going thru gloves or off his pads.

if i were you i would pick up auld right away

ottawa did little to adress their goaltending needs imo . but auld is a good choice as a back-up to play in as many as 35+ games and as few as 10.that said gerber just can\'t seem to hold it together for a consistent season unless he\'s given the oppoertunity to do that and ottawa just can\'t afford to take that risk.if it were up to me i\'d be looking at moving spezza to a team like florida for example in exchange for vokum.harding in minni may be available down the road as well.they need a toskala or nabakov type goalie if they plan on making a serious run.it\'s eary yet and ottawa will have to see how both goalies will handle the pressure of #1.

Thanks guys. I have been considering a trade where I\'d move a very good Tier 2 goalie for Gerber. I am leaning towards not doing the deal due to the uncertainty of the situation in Ottawa.

Thanks again

I wouldnt trade FOR Gerber but if you have him, you might as well just sit tight. He has been able to put together some solid stretches. Is he a SUPERSTAR? Heck No! But is he capable of getting 50 to 55 starts and maybe 30 wins in Ottawa? Of course. He gave up two terrible goals to bookend that game but still killed off seven Pitt PPs and was not helped out by his teammates on a couple of the goals. He still needs to make those saves and he cost the Sens a point as well as gave two to Pitt. Auld is a good solid back up tender but what gives you the reason to believe he is ready to step in a number one for the Sens?
