I think the winner is the guy getting Malkin/Havlat. I thought getting the two draft picks in the original offer was just a bonus. But I don\'t think it\'s lopsided given Havlat\'s injury status.

BTW, 30 teams..60 players per....that\'s gotta be the deepest pool I have ever heard of. What, are you scouting the bantam drafts for players? lol.

There should be no veto in any league. Unless you see Crosby and Ovechkin for Penner and Fritsche then you shouldnt even think about a veto.

This trade isnt overly stacked either way and it seems to help both teams. One team dumps salary but loses a lot of high end talent and the other takes on a CERTIFIED band aid boy and a young stud. With 30 teams that draft pick cant amount to squat anyway.

I don\'t see a veto unless you know the two GMs are in collusion.

I think the Malkin side wins just because of Malkin, though I like the chances of Datsuyk and St. Louis playing 164 games more than the chances of Havlat and Malkin. Personally, I would stay away from Havlat. I think the trade is pretty even and if the team getting Datsuyk and St. Louis have a chance to win the whole thing this year, I could see it making sense. Repeat - I would HATE to give up Malkin to make this happen!

I\'m having trouble seeing which team loses the deal...looks solid to me. I would rather have Malkin, myself, but Datsyuk and St.Louis will have 185 points this year between them.

Thanks for all the input guys. Actually I posted this because I know that a lot of guys in my league visit the site. I didn think it was even close to being vetoable. In fact I figured the team that got Malkin may actually lose points this year as a result of the trade.

Not everyone agreed. Some memorable quotes against the deal:
Quote:
Absolutley f*cking brutal...... HOLY F*CK
Quote:
This is actually bad news for everyone.....
(GM getting Malkin) now is going to think sending out stupid offers is working.....
Quote:
what a rip off. You could have gotten way more for Malkin. I don\'t understand what is going through the heads of GM\'s when making such a stupid deal like this. This is a keeper league. Not a 1 year pool.
My favorite is

Havlat would have had 80+ pts if he was healthy. Do you own a crystal ball? Can you see the future? Havlat is due for a healthy season and is still young. Its not like he has concussion problems. Havlat could hit close to 100 on the revamped Blackhawks.

The funny thing is that despite you rape him so badly in the deal, you have to include a condition where you get a 1st instead of a 2nd (huge difference), if Ramo plays 10 games.

This deal should be veto\'d, and (a GM waiting for opening) should takeover (Team trading Malkin).
Yes, he did say fire the GM for making that deal
Quote:
Actually i think deal should be veto cause that 1st could be a top 3 pick in a very good draft.
because anyone trading Malkin for Datysuk AND St.Louis is going to finish at the bottom.

Thanks for confirming what I thought and I know I may have burned some bridges with other GM making this post. I took out all the names out so only guys in the league and the GMs involved know who is who. I wanted to post this so the GMs involved could get a perspective from othe fantasy hockey guys not in the league.

I don\'t think it\'s one sided at all....Malkin side wins the deal long run, but for this year Datsyuk side wins...unless by some miracle Havlat plays all year, then this year will be close also.... IMO, it is not even close to a deal that should be even in consideration for vetoing.

I have a question Puck...and it may lose me some Karma...but have any of those owners making those ridiculous comments ever been in a pool before? I honestly cannot even fathom the thought process they are putting into this. I think it\'s a case of everybody gets pissed off when a superstar is traded and it\'s not to them, so they automatically cry foul. The only way Datsyuk/St. louis don\'t out point Malkin/Havlat this year is if Datsyuk and Marty retire......tommorow...
Really don\'t want to step on toes, but it just irks me to no end, when a perfectly fine trade is made out to be the greatest lube job in history.

That\'s what happens when veto rules are so easy in pools. The first words out of a GM\'s mouth when he sees a trade he doesn\'t like:

\"VETO\"

It\'s ridiculous. Stiffen up your veto rules. In the keeper league that I run, that word has never been uttered. And there have been the occasional rape jobs. Vetos are to prevent collusion. That\'s it. Not to use on a whim whenever you don\'t get your way, or whenever an owner trades a star without shopping him.

Here\'s the rule we use in our pool:

\"Any owner may request a vote on any trade. In this event a closed vote must take place and a majority is needed in order to overturn the trade. Please note: The ONLY reason to request a vote is if you believe owners are in collusion, NOT because you thought it was a bad trade - bad trades are part of sports folks.\"
