Default Rank these once greats for this season

I\'m trying to rank these guys on which one will have more trade value after the first 25 games of the season... I would like to pick up one of them and then hope he pans out with the first 25 games and then trade him... My team is an expantion team in a 18 team league... so any asset I can pick up and move later on and get something that fits my team right now is a building block to my future dynasty...

Todd Bertuzzi
Jason Blake
Bill Guerin
Paul Kariya
Eric Lindros
Teemu Selanne
Brendan Shanahan
Ryan Smyth
Richard Zednik

Smyth or Kariya or Shanahan. If your looking to hold onto a player long-term, Smyth would be the best outta those.

Guerin might be a dark horse as he\'ll see tons of ice time and pp time.

I am not that high on Blake as I dislike the leafs haha but he might do pretty good on the PP as Tucker did and Blake is MUCH more talented than Tucker, so he\'ll put up some good numbers.

So for your question who fantasy might increase the most in the first 25 games, it might be Guerin or Blake

Long-term, I think I llike Smyth the best in that list.

The best candidates to have a good first quarter and then dump for the future are, imo:

Guerin
Shanahan
Kariya

Guerin will probably post good numbers again this year playing lots of good minutes from a fantasy perspective. Shanny will probably have a good start as well and there will be lots of people on board believing in the Rangers hype this season. He is obviously not in your long-term plans as an expansion owner so he is an intriguing candidate. Kariya should be able to produce at the same level he did in Nashville but I don\'t see him being as dominant for such a small stretch as these other 2 and he would get you the least value, IMO, especially if your league counts PIMS, which would favor Guerin and Shanahan.

Smyth - He would be the best investment for the next 3 years or so since Colorado has lots of nice promising forwards.

Selanne - If he comes back it will probably only be for a one or two year contract. He could go on fire and get you a nice return.

Bertuzzi - Definite wild-card who will definitely have people believing if he posts close to a PPG in the first quarter with lots of PIMS.

Blake - One of the best bets to have a good season since he is still younger than most on this lis but who knows how he will do on his new team.

Lindros - Not really any upside here and is most likely gonna hang em up.

Zednik - I wouldnt expect much as he is only gonna be relied on for secondary scoring in FLA.

I\'m assuming it\'s a keeper league so any GM interested in acquiring one of these players will not only be interested in this season\'s production but also the potential of future production. With that in mind I would lean toward the players that produce AND are under contract for a few years (Kariya, Blake, Smyth) over those that are either signed for one season (Shanahan), injury-prone (Bertuzzi), or may not play at all (Selanne, Lindros).

I\'d agree with the others. My choice would be Smyth; he could get off to a strong start with Sakic and will have value for several years. Shanahan could also bust out of the gate quickly, though there\'s a good chance this could be his last season, so you may not get the value coming back for him, unless someone\'s just looking for a lpayer to put them over the top this year.

i agree with digitalmonkey. if you take smyth or kariya you look like your getting a guy that could be in your roster for a few years. when dealing this guy that will come into play a lot more than if you have a guy that the other GM knows is just a spare part that your looking to get rid of. deal from a position of strength and you should get a better return.

also if you happen to find no takers on some of these guys at least you know that both of these two can play for another year and still produce so your not getting stuck with a player that you wasted a pick on and then leaves.
