I drafted Nicklas Backstrom last year in our keeper league. He had a poor W.J. tournament and not very impressive stats otherwise. Is he a classic case of a prospect that is blown out of prospective ??

Should I trade him now ??

I would not trade him... He will be worth hanging onto... He did have great numbers this year on his team... WJC was not a poor turnout for him also.. You can look for around 50 to 70 points this year from him.. depending on who he plays with... I have to say backstrom is as close to a sure thing as your going to get..Any prospect not named crosby is going to have some sort of risk...

You ask if you should trade Backstrom? What do you need on your team? What is your team strength and weakness? Could you win the pool? What could you get for Backstrom?

Did you have a definite thought?

It is difficult to give you an answer without knowing more about your team. I don\'t think that you should dismiss the idea if there is an area where you need to improve. At the same time you have to appreciate that Backstrom probably is the favorite, at this time, to win roty. It is still worth consideration, dependant on your team needs.

He is rated to be successful in this league - do you want that to be on your team or someone else\'s? If you don\'t have the patience to wait out the development of this draft pick or you can really cash in on a trade - then start shopping him. He has lots of hype around him so you should do well in a trade. I personally would keep him but if you can get a truck load for him - what the heck!

Toews is gonna be/is already better then Backstrom. If you can deal him for Toews +, go for it. Backstrom won\'t live up to expectations imo.

Keep Backstrom. He put up respectable numbers with Brynas - lead the team in points as an 19 year old.

Coaches in Sweden have compared him to Forsberg. That\'s a pretty big compliment.

Not to mention he\'ll have a cast of young superstars - Ovechkin and Semin.
