That is a lot of injury time for Gabby/Havlat owner. You never know tho, Gabby\'s off-season workout might enable him to play a full season which in turn might equal a 100 point season. Havlat will outproduce Toews this year. I don\'t think it is that lopsided as it seems. Not to mention that in pools where they count LW and RW Gabby/Havlat dual position helps (in yahoo pools i am assuming).
I personally rather have Spezza/Toews, I can\'t deal with that like risk of injury and such.

It would be an interesting deal. The guy taking on Gaborik and Havlat could win big time if all the stars align properly, but oh what a risk.
Giving up Spezza (no stranger to time in the infirmary) and a very highly touted prospect in Toews sounds like the making of a fair deal to me. Provided I have other talent on my roster and I really want to go out on a limb and win it all this season, I\'d make that deal No risk, no reward says my stock broker.

I would not do this trade if I owned the Spezza side without getting something more in the deal. Even though Spezza can\'t seem to play a full season either - the liability with Gabbie and Havlat is just too high.
Should all of them play full seasons from here on in - it may be the Gabbie side wins this season and next but in the end (given that condition) this trade likely will be a wash, other than the obvious Toews is younger than all. There is always the issue that Toews hasn\'t played a game in the NHL yet - so a bit of a pig in a poke - how many surefire guys have there been in the last decade or so? I am not a Spezza fan at all.. I realize he gets lots of points but they are mostly assists. I think the wild-card in the deal is Toews. Its hard to give this guy up when he has so much hype and potential coming into this season.. And will Toews get to his 90-95 point potential?? It\'s a risk..
But Gaborik and Havlat could score a combined 80 goals for many years to come. It is a huge risk but I think I would want a little bit more if I was to take that risk. The person getting Spezza and Toews should offer a few draft picks along with Gaborik and Havlat. I like the goals coming my way. Z.. good luck with your decision.

Toews and Havalt could be a wash this year so it comes down to Spezza and Gaborik. For the duration of an entire season I take Spezza so I like Spezza and Toews.
But if you are able to predict Havlat and Gaborik healthy for the entire year and years to come then the deal is not even close. Problem is these two are never healthy. Take Spezza and Toews and enjoy the points produced when the other two are on the sidelines. |

Just to throw in my $0.02, in a pool that favours goals, the gaborik/havlat side would most likely outpace spezza/toews and there could be consideration for gaborik and havlat being position eligible at RW while Spezza and Toews are at the more readily available C.
I\'m also not sure whether it was mentioned that this is a keeper pool. In a 1 year league, Havlat/Gaborik would be worth taking a long look. The big thing that I see missing in most posts like this one is the league\'s parameters and the roster depth of the teams involved. Trades can be viewed in an entirely different light given the right league categories (eg. 1yr vs keeper, pts. vs roto vs H2H,postional requirements, etc) and if you\'re dealing from depth. If I have Crosby, Malkin, Thornton, Spezza, Toews and my RW is Iginla, Radek Dvorak and Mike Johnson and I only dress 2 C\'s and 2 RW\'s, I\'m more than happy to give away Spezza/Toews for Gaborik/Havlat. I tend to feel the same way...with a health Gabby and Havlat then point wise it will be greater. Also they\'re both due for a breakout year soon.
Its a keeper league, where assist & points are equal value and there is depth in the roster to make up the team. Post edited by: ltpfantasy, at: 2007/08/08 16:33 |
