Default Dynasty League trade

The league is a dynasty and has a $70milcap @ present, just finished all the drafting. We had 2 teams fold are in the midst of a retraction/dispersal of their players.

We count yearly salaries, not avg cap amounts. i.e Gomez will cost his owner $10mil this season out of his cap.

Liles $1.4 UFA 08/09
Hecht $2.35 UFA 08/09
3rd ret 41st pick

for

Pitkanen $2.4 RFA 08/09
Chris Clark $1.1 $2.75 $2.65 $2.5 UFA 11/12
4th ret. 47th pick

Here\'s my NHL roster, I have an extensive minors as well mixed of NHL and prospect talent. (65 total combined rosters 25NHL/40MINORS)

Forwards $38,336,200

F Vincent Lecavalier $7,166,667 27 108pts
F Marc Savard $5,000,000 30 96pts
F Dainius Zubrus $3,400,000 29 60pts
F Andy McDonald $3,333,333 30 78pts
F Derek Roy $3,000,000 24 63pts
F Brendan Shanahan $2,500,000 38 62pts in 67gms
F Scott Walker $2,500,000 34 51pts
F Jochen Hecht $2,350,000 30 56pts
F Martin Erat $1,750,000 26 57pts in 68gms
F Dustin Brown $1,175,000 23 46pts in 81gms
F Drew Stafford $984,200 22 27pts in 41gms
F Milan Michalek $942,000 23 66pts

BN Mike Sillinger $2,200,000 36 59pts
BN Radim Vrbata $1,225,000 26 41pts
BN Joe Pavelski $810,000 24 28pts in 46gms

Defense $18,802,000

D Scott Niedermayer $6,750,000 34 69pts
D Sergei Zubov $4,000,000 36 54pts
D Lubomir Visnovsky $2,052,000 31 58pts
D Henrik Tallinder $2,500,000 29 14pts in 47gms
D John-Michael Liles $1,400,000 27 44pts
D Zbynek Michalek $1,200,000 25 28pts
BN Christian Ehrhoff $900,000 25 33pts

Goalies $5,700,000

G Petr Budaj $700,000 25
G Manny Fernandez $4,500,000 33
BN Wade Dubielewicz $500,000 28

total cap = $62,838,200
left = $7,161,800

I really don\'t want to move Liles as I think he\'ll be a Visnovsky type with a full season next yr, and 60pts on a regular basis. However I do pick up similar production from Pitkanen, plus double the PIM of Liles.

Pitkanen is 3 yrs younger and RFA next yr instead of UFA like Liles, Clark has similar # to Hecht, but again will likely score a few more G than him and is signed the next 4yrs overall to play a top 6 F role for WSH.

Thoughts, advice, analysis all greatly appreciated.

i like the deal. i think it adds stability and both guys are going to be on the scoring lines of their teams rather than a fill in guy or a guy who is in the doghouse when he doesn\'t perform the way the coach wants him to.

pitkanen- like you said he\'s young, has a ton of talent and i think once he plays for a bit the Oil will lock him down so burke cant send him a sheet next year lol. he\'s better than liles i think.

clark- he\'s locked in, no worries about someone offering him cash and him leaving. plus like you said he\'s geared to being in the front 6 so you know he\'s going to be playing with some dam good guys and should get points just being on the ice.

i think you already answered this question yourself with your summary but maybe just needed a little push to convince you. all your points are valid and i think right on the button. pull the trigger and enjoy this one for years to come.

I would do the deal...but keep in mind that Nieds is about to retire - that gives you more cap space to work with...

I think the deal benefits you too, but have you thought about seeing if you can turn some of your depth at forward into a better goalie?

1 of your goalies is backing up a guy with a 15 year contract, one plays for the lowly Bruins and the other is a bargain on a good young team. Still would leave me searching for a bit more depth there... just a thought

Hello crazedcanuck \'et al\':

I agree with all and would also taken the deal.

Clark is likely to play with Ovechkin and Nylander. His points are going to jump.

I would consider Pitkanen/Liles, potentially, to be a wash. Pitkanen might need some adjustment time in Edmonton and Liles will have a better supporting cast, in Colorado, but \'at the end of the day\' I think it is close.

The difference for me, in this deal, is the upside of Clark with Ovechkin and Nylander.

Im gonna go against the grain i guess and say, dont take the deal.

IMO: Liles is going to outscore pitkanen as long as pitkanen is on edmonton(he will never be the top guy there), and liles is gonna have better +/-, and is playing on a very offensive colorado team.

I am also not too sold on chris clark. This guy played with ovechkin all last year, granted this year nylander is there as well, but he is simply not very talented. He will always be the 3rd guy on the line that the puck gets too, he will always have a \"pass first\" mentality, cause hopefully he realizes that ovechkin is better than him.

You are also giving up a higher pick than you are getting in return.

Personally, id say that this is a trade that is very close, it is hard to see a CLEAR CUT winner, that being said, \"sometimes the best trade is the one that you dont do?\" It seems to me like this trade doesnt improve your team noticeablly, and that you should focus more on your goaltending than anything else. Perhaps try to deal niedermayer/+ for a young goalie(bernier?) if someone is silly enough to do that.

ANYWAYS, good luck with this trade.

This is close enough for me to ask one of the questions I always do when I am considered a trade that is close to balanced - \"So why does this guy want to make this trade with me? Does he know what he is doing?\"

I would keep Liles, by the way.

Problem with the league is that it\'s a 2 starter min and there are no spares.

I\'ve got Pogge and Pavelec in my minors and am picking up Thomas in this draft in a few picks to backup Fernandez.

If I can flip Fernandez/Thomas for a top tier I will, but it\'s a thin market right now.

Thanks for the comments all.

I actually was able to pickup McCabe for Ehrhoff and a 5th rounder in the retraction to a manager that needed cap relief.

So I am going to hold onto Liles for now as I the difference in $$ between him and Pitkanen will place me @ the cap.

I\'m going to continue to pursue Clark though.

As for Niedermayer, I just aquired him for Lashoff with a conditional 2nd 08 prospect pick. The condition being if he retires the deal becomes Lashoff for his 2nd08 and if he plays Lashoff + my 2nd 08 for Niedermayer.
