Default Cap Issues!

So here is how my pool works:

Keeper League - $25 cap where 16 GMs bid on available players(25 cent minimum). We have 5 of each forward position including a reserve spot(Center, Right and Left Wings); 8 Defensemen including 2 reserve spots; 3 Goalies with no reserves. Every year, all player\'s salaries increase by 20 cents.

The categories that count are Forward G,A,Pts,+/-,PiM, and PPG; Defence G,A,+/-, and PiM; Goalie Wins,GAA, Mins, and Save% - where Mins and Save% count as one category.

My current roster is as follows:
LW:
Lattendresse ($0.75)
Avery ($1.05)
Michelak ($1.95)
PM Bouchard ($1.40)
Torres ($1.15)
C:
Vermette ($0.60)
Backstrom ($0.50)
Connolly ($0.65)
H Sedin ($0.85)
Crosby ($2.85)
RW:
L Eriksson ($0.65)
Brule ($0.70)
Recchi ($1.20)
Cheechoo ($1.10)
Afinogenov ($2.60)
D:
Bourdon ($0.45)
M Staal ($0.45)
Tallinder ($0.45)
Krajicek ($0.45)
Ian White ($0.45)
Bouwmeester ($1.50)
Pitkanen ($1.10)
Gonchar ($2.10)
G:
Cloutier ($1.35)
Turco ($1.35)
Giguere ($1.30)

As is my salary is at $29.
I have to drop players to decrease my salary below $25.
Goalies are at a premium - I plan on dropping Cloutier but I will need to pick up another - Backstrom (MIN) will be available but in order to get him I will need to bid at least $2.30 or more...
Halak, Harding, and Mike Smith are also available, but unless another GM releases a goalie that might be about it...do the math 16 times 3 goalies each = 48 goalies taken...hence goalies are at a premium.

Who do I drop?
Are there any sleeper goalies are out there that I might be able to pick up?
Advice?

I have heard rumor that Jason Labarbera could be get some playing time in LA this year. I personally would also get rid of PM Bouchard and get another RW if you can, I think 1.40 is too much for him.

Honestly, if I released PM Bouchard, he would probably be bid up to around $1.40 anyway. However, dropping Bouchard is an option. It depends if I determine if I have enough fire power up front.

Default Re:Cap Issues!

Here are some thoughts on this, just to get you thinking. I went through each of these guys and basically said \"would i pay this for them?\". If the answer was yes then they probably got kept.

LW

Keep
-Michalek - 1.95 - Yes a tad high, but who else can replace him?
-Bouchard - 1.40 - Underrated, and will continue to improve
-Avery - 1.05 - Worth it probably for the PIMs alone

Drop
-Torres - 1.15 - He can be replaced for less I\'d think
-Tender - 0.75 - Maybe not even top 2 line duty

C

Keep - Keep all of these guys unless you think you can replace Vermette with equal production for 0.25
-Crosby - 2.85
-H Sedin - 0.85
-Connolly - 0.65
-Vermette - 0.60
-Backstr - 0.50

RW

Keep
-Cheechoo - 1.10 - Kind of a no-brainer
-Brule - 0.70 - Give him another year?

Drop
-Afino - 2.60 - As much as it hurts, that\'s a lot of money for him
-Recchi - 1.20 - See above, regardless of his situation
-Eriksson - 0.65 - If you can save 0.40, and you need the 0.40

D

Keep - Unless you can drop a 0.45 guy for a 0.25 guy, keep them all
-Gonchar - 2.10
-Bouwmees - 1.50
-Pitkanen - 1.10
-5 at .45 - 2.25

G

Keep - Obviously, drop Cloutier.
-Turco - 1.35
-Giguere - 1.30

Total - 21.25

You need to buy 5 forwards, @ .25 each that\'s 1.25
which gets you to 22.50, leaving you 2.50 for a 3rd
goaltender

I think your main dilemma is going to be figuring out whether or not to keep Afinigenov, and how much you\'ll need for a 3rd goaltender.

But above is what I might do.

Good luck.

blindedbyfear\'s analysis here is excellent.

I just wanted to say I agree that you must drop Afinagenov at that price, it is just way too high to pay for the guy. He should get more playing time now with Drury and Briere gone, but I wonder if that extra time will just go to the centers moving into those slots (Roy and Connolly) rather than affecting the wings at all. Its open to interpretation, but I really think you are paying way too high for Max and the only way you can logistically get under the limit and get a good 3rd goalie is to dump him.

Thanks for the advice BBF,

I guess the players that are in question are:

Lattendresse... Is he worth 75 cent?
PM Bouchard... He is weak on PiM but could have a breakout year in points.
Brule? What will he do this year?
Recchi... At $1.20, is he worth the cost?
Can I drop Bourdon and rebid 25 cents to get him back?
Krajicek and Tallinder? Can I get the same quality for a quarter?

I guess the rest are kinda no-brainers.

I also had a trade offer that might not be on the table anymore...
Near the end of the season I was offered Nabokov @ $1.35 for Bouwmeester and PM Bouchard...

At the time, I thought the price was a little steep...what do you guys think?
