Will he bounce back in Edmonton?
How many points do you predict? And is he going to be a minus player again this year?

I\'m not sure how to answer your first question. Other than his horrific plus minus, he had 43 pts. That\'s only 3 less than the season before. From a poolie perspective, if you were in a points only pool, he was fine last year.
I see him scoring 40-45 points again this season. He will likely be a minus player again. Edmonton doesn\'t look to be a very strong club this coming season and Pitkanen will log tons of ice time, similar to what he did in Philly. His plus minus last year is largely due to playing a lot on a last place team. I\'m hoping that he can keep his plus minus in the single minuses, but I don\'t think that\'s likely.

The year before he had 13 goals, 33 assist in just 58 games... I expecting just a touch more from him last year.

I agree that he\'ll again be a \"minus player\" in edmonton (if he actually signs to play there... hahaha... but that\'s another issue entirely), but I think he\'ll do much better this year, as he\'ll have more capable defenders on his team (instead of the lumbering trees that play in phili). You also have to consider the fact that he\'ll be going up against the canucks, flames, and wild for a combined 24 games. Everyone knows that these guys don\'t score. This is much different than playing against the likes of jagr, shannahan, nylander, straka, gomez, crosby, malkin, recchi, gonchar, r. whitney, j. staal, elias, gionta, blake, yashin etc... day in and day out.

I completely agree with Lanky. I think that Pitkanen is going to have a very difficult time in the west. He is not used to getting pounded and he will be pounded. He will fold. Consider his supporting cast. He had 43 points with one of the worst teams, in the east, last year. This year he is playing with one of the worst teams, IN THE WEST. He will not match the points of last year.

The minus on EDM last year should make him feel right at home.
However, there aren\'t a lot of young DMan that have flashed his type of offensive potential. I think he\'s worth hanging onto for another year. Hopefully your league isn\'t like mine and counts the +/-.

Noted Lanky. I am not suggesting that he is going to go \'into the tank\'. Edmonton has to do something to improve their lineup. They cannot start the year with what they have. Many of the players that come over from the east have difficulty with the physical game that is played in the west and also the increased travel. Considering what Edmonton gave up for him I hope it works out. I just don\'t see him doing more than what he did last year.

I\'m more curious about Tarnstrom, since he\'s available in my league. When some guys leave the NHL for a couple of season to play in Europe and Russia, they can come back more relaxed and experienced. Tarnstrom was great in the World Championship. If Tarnstrom was added in the poll, he should certainly be ahead of Mara, Hamrlik and Murphy.
Pitkanen and Tarnstrom at the point on the powerplay is pure offense. But who\'s going to score? If Vanek went to the Oilers, that would have made a huge difference. |
