Default Trading for Rask (REP)

Hey, I'm attempting to pull Rask out of the clutches of my nephew. His dad, my brother, is going to ensure I pay the price if I even can get a whiff of this.

The question is, what should I offer?

I'm thinking of using Malkin as a trade piece. Rask is currently sitting as the number 3 player in our league via the player rater which is weighted with all our stats. Malkin is pretty far down the list right now.

So based on my team 1 in sig, who would you move for Rask? Remember my goaltending has been atrocious and I'm actually in 2nd place right now. Hiller is finally rounding into form. Pavelec has been better, but that will shift back to awful at some point like it always does. Lehner was a great WW pickup, but I won't keep him unless Anderson is gone.

I'll rep for replies too as long as I remember.

He has Howard, Dubnyk, and Reimer in goal.

His best players are:
Landeskog
Callahan
Hossa
Iginla
Letang
Justin Schultz
Duchene
Marleau
Nash
O'Reilly
^These are his potential keepers

We can only keep 9 or 11 Skaters and 2 goalies. A couple of his guys are in the decline. He doesn't need defense a I've got a good amount there.

The curse is that with Rask playing the way he is you'll have to grossly overpay to land him. I agree, with the injury, Malkin is the logical starting point, but b/c he's hurt [and wasn't playing outstanding prior to that] you'll need to add enticing pieces. What does your nephew need.

Given your depth at a number of positions you could afford to part with some significant pieces and not be hurt too badly.

I would start with Malkin/OEL/Lehner. That lands him a stud F, and young budding D, and fairly high end G prospect [albeit in a log-jam for playing time].

I would consider upping the ante to Malkin/Seguin/Lehner. I'm not sold on Seguin's upside on a BOS team that plays a 1a/1b approach with their top 2 lines.

Basically start with Malkin.
Be prepared to add a significant 2nd piece...perhaps even Phaneuf or Hall [you have the depth to cover these guys anyway].
Add a G back [anyone not named Hiller]

It's disgusting, but I don't think you get Rask in the middle of this kind of season without ponying WAY UP!

I can't add scoring to my signature as it puts me over the character limit.

G,A, PPA, PPG, SHP, GWG, FOW, Hits, SOG, Blks, +/-, PIM,DEF points

Goalies stats are GS, Saves, S%, GAA, W, SO

There you go. It's such a crapload to write.

malkin for rask straight up should actually be enough of an overpayment to get the job done imo if that is what you are willing to do

if you want to get a forward back to mitigate losing malkin you could let him pick from all but one of your goalies and tell him to give you a list of 2-3 of his keeper forwards that are off limits and you get to pick from the rest

EDIT: I wrote this assuming it was a keeper league, and realize I might be wrong on that now. If that is the case, then lucifer's suggestion above seems more reasonable then mine.

I don't like the trade personally. I think Malkin is far too much to pay, and I don't think your goalies are that bad going forward.

- Lehner has shown skill and is a year or two away from taking over for Anderson on a Sens team that shows great promise.
- Lindback has been improved of late, and as he matures will only get better. Tampa seems content on helping him grow into the role and I have to imagine defense is something they will be looking to address going forward, and they have the forward depth to pay for it.
- Hiller and Fasth won't both remain in Anaheim, so he will be a starter again next year.
- Pavelec is a decent goalie on a bad team and will be serviceable going forward.
- Theodore I would just drop.

But I do concede they will take some time while Rask is excellent now. So if you are intent on moving for Rask, Malkin is not where I would start. I think you have other pieces he would consider valuable, that you can package with one of your other goalies, probably Pavelec or Lindback. These include Ovechkin, Hall or even Seguin. I would try one of those before including Malkin in discussions.

Agreed with the above. As an owner of Rask, It'd take nothing short of a Giroux, Malkin, Stamkos or Crosby for me to consider moving him. He's a stud of a goalie, playing on an insanely stacked, big, young team with solid defenders in a solid system.
The guy I'm competing with for number one offered me Patrick Kane straight up and I said no. Rask is a top 3 goalie, and deserves at least one top 10 player and one top 20 player with a prospect in return.

It is a keeper, but it's limited. We only keep around half the team and only 2 goalies max. I'm trying to maximize the two best goalies I can because I keep finishing within the top 3 every year and never get better at goaltending to make it so I can consistently win it every year. I won last year with Tim Thomas and he left to royally screw me over.
