Head to head league counting G, A, +/-, SHP, Shots, Hits.
Who would you rather have for the remainder of the season?

That's who I am leaning toward as well. Has more well rounded production, particularly with regards to hits. Garrison carries a good plus minus though, and has upside to score more if the canucks get their power play together.

and if we want to talk upside both in terms of production and +/- mcdonaghs upside is much higher than garrisons |

I get the reasoning but I would rather have the guy that is a part of the Canucks PP1 than the better allround player from a team that will "never" have a good PP. He's not even on the PP.
When the Canucks PP start clicking the points will start rolling in. Even Ehrhoff looked like a stud in Vancouver.

it is a fact that mcdonagh had one fewer point than garrison last season it is a fact that mcdonaghs +/- was much larger than garrisons last season it is a fact that mcdonaghs upside offensively as well as defensively is much higher than garrisons (ok well thats more of an opinion) at this point the canucks pp getting great and garrison being this elite offensive defenseman is a bit like canned unicorn meat garrison is about as overrated as ville leino was the guy is a 30 point defenseman nice but nothing special |

That's my take too. I could easily see McDonagh becoming one of those consistent 40-45 pt guys, like a Matt Carle but much better in the defensive categories like plus/minus and blocked shots. You don't have to watch much Rangers hockey to see how he is, more and more, joining the rush, stepping up to create offensive chances. Torts has even mentioned on occasion that this is in fact the plan they've laid out for him, in terms of his progression to become an elite two-way dman. Mark my words, in five years he's going to be putting up consistent 40-45 pt totals each year with upwards of 2SOG per game and great plus/minus numbers, he'll be a great fantasy dman.

I think McDonagh has always had an underrated offensive upside just because of what he was capable of doing defensively.
There's something to be said for a guy who is steady defensively and is capable of chipping in with points here and there. I'd take McD |

40-45 is about where i peg him as well occasionally flirting with 50
if sauer was healthy they would have enough defensemen that could play defense that mcdonagh could be given more offensive responsibility than he is but yes as his game rounds out and he gains more experience 40-45 is likely where he settles |

I like McDonagh here too. He's a gem in leagues that also count hits/bs, but even in your format I like him more than Garrison, who I agree is over-rated.
