I wonder if this Abel-to-Yzerman guy reads our stuff.

From his article posted today, March 14th:
Datsyuk sees the realignment, knows the kind of nightly abuse he's going to take in the Eastern Conference and wants to "go out like Barry Sanders did." Healthy, in other words. And he wants to give the KHL a few years of brilliance. He wants his home country to see him while he still has magic left.

It's not unfathomable that Datsyuk doesn't re-sign.
Perhaps he pulls a Barry Sanders and just tells Detroit "Thanks, it was a good career. I'm done."

Way too early for Datsyuk to be considering retirement from the NHL, and for someone to credibly report on it. Selanne has been retiring each season for about 10 years, Alfie the last couple of years, Chelios for the last 15 years of his career, etc.

Too much can happen between now and when he is a free agent for any report to have any credibility.
