he can't be sent to the minors without going through waivers first, which by next season they may have no choice but to do, if they choose to re-sign him

I don't see any teams giving up a 2nd rounder for Bishop, either now or at the draft

Don't get me wrong...I like Bishop well enough, but as lucifer316 pointed out, there are all kinds of goalies avaiable right now and lots of pending UFAs. I don't see much of a market for Bishop anytime soon, and Ottawa will have to decide whether or not to re-sign him and possibly carry three goalies on their roster next year

I suppose they could send Lehner back to the minors (I believe he is still eligible), but he has been so good that it would be a shame to send him back down.

anyway, only time will tell

Bishop is more attractive than most of those UFA goalies other than the top starters. Cheaper to acquire, lower salary, younger age, good potential. I can see a team giving up a late 1st.

He'll be a Blue Jacket by the draft I'd say. They have expendable assets and are interested in him.

how exactly is bishop cheaper to acquire than ufa goalies

you dont have to trade for ufa goalies

and he is similar in age to khudobin and greiss

and thats just the ufas that is ignoring bernier potentially being available and luongo and one of hiller or fasth not a comparison of age but goalies who are considered to have more upside

as for the blue jackets they have their starter and i would think they would want a veteran backup going forward

Sorry, meant in terms of salary, not what it takes to acquire him. A team looking for a backup who can fill-in as a starter will snatch him up.

ok i already saw salary in your post didnt think you would mention it twice

as for a backup who can fill in as a starter again that link has a crap load of them and they are all available for nothing more than money

i am not saying its impossible that he gets traded but i dont think it is a sure thing either

i dont think people realize just how many goalies are available as more younger goalies become nhl ready and fewer guys retire

Most goaltenders start to come into their prime in late 20's through mid 30's. Anderson just turned 31. He's got 5 or 6 quality years left in him "ATLEAST"...considering his physical shape and work ethic. The guys is a beast.
Yeah he seems older than 31. Turns 32 in a couple months though.

Anyway, the problem with Anderson has never been his age, it's his talent level. He's had some really terrible seasons. He's been great this year but he's coming off of back to back 2.83 GAA/91.3 SV% seasons. Some of that is due to the team in front of him, but that's pretty ugly. His only prolonged period of success was as a backup for the Panthers 5 years ago. There have been a few glimpses in Ottawa, but I think a lot will depend on how he finishes this season.

He's been excellent in both playoff series he's been in.

Yeah it's so farfetched, I mean he wasn't traded for a second last year or anything.

and his value has only increased

Simple supply and demand.

Anderson, get injured....Ottawa needs a goalie....Bishop is traded for a 2nd.

If Anderson doesn't get injured, does Ottawa trade for Bishop? Do they even get a 2nd rounder?? The answers to both of those questions is no.

What player x is traded for last year, doesn't mean he will get traded for that the following year. You are totally ignoring the market, or lack thereof, for goalies.

I know you don't want Ottawa to lose Bishop for nothing, or at least get the 2nd round pick they paid for him....but you have to look at it from a league perspective.

How many more games does Bishop have to play to be qualified as a UFA, or has he already hit that threshold? Maybe, Lehner can carry them until anderson gets back and still have Bishop as a RFA
