Default Kunitz for Granlund

This is a follow-up to my other thread about Kunitz's value. I was proven sane by everyone's responses, so thanks for the help! Negotiations have resulted in the offer of his Granlund for my Kunitz. It would help me cut salary (4.4 vs 1.5 for next year) and from everything I've been able to track down Granlund is one of the best prospects around even considering that he hasn't lit the world on fire 20 games into his career. Kunitz is blatantly piggy-backing Crosby, and I recognize that, but regardless his numbers have been fantastic.

Is this a solid move? Having Kunitz, Letang and Crosby has provided me with a lot of great numbers, as they often appear on the scoresheet together. That said, losing Karlsson and Kipper for a big chunk of time means that I'm all but out of it for the year. I've been pretty ravaged by injury. Dorsett, Theodore, McDonald and Filppula were all guys that I had hoped would be contributing.

Rep for any help!

For this year, I'd take Kunitz, so keep him if you're trying to win.
Otherwise, I would make that trade!

I think this really boils down to short term vs long term strategy and what you're trying to acheive. Obviously Kunitz is much better in the short term, and probably for the next 2-3 seasons - especially playing with Crosby.

Long term keeper potential Granlund is the winner, but it's hard to judge how much potential a guy has after 25 NHL games. If you're okay taking on that risk I would consider it, but you're going to be taking a big hit in the short term.

You can do better than Granlund. With how hot Kunitz is right now, I'm sure some other manager who is making a last push can offer more than Granlund. Unless the offer is really awesome, just keep Kunitz since he will always get Crosby's left over points.

I always tell myself to never go for a long-term player when I'm still in the race for the win. If you have a chance of winning this year without Karlsson then you'll probably be in the race next year too, imagine how bad you'd feel if you don't have Kunitz and Granlund hasn't improved.

I wouldn't do this trade.

Given Kunitz' value right now, and the fact that he's probably entrenched to be on Crosby's wing for the forseeable future - not just this year, but for at least one more year, he has 1 more year after this on his contract. Can't see the Pens not re-signing him given the chemistry with Sid, and I can't see Kunitz really bolting to go somewhere else, even for more money. Who in the world wouldn't want to right shotgun with Sid...!
That's like Anson Carter (who?) demanding more money after ONE good year with the Sedin twins... Remember what happened to him after demanding too much money? Yeah, me neither...haha.

If you're really wanting to sell Kunitz, I'd try to go for a more established younger player where you know exactly what you're getting. Granlund is good, and supposed to be really good, but he'll always be stuck behind Koivu for 1st line time, and it's not like Minny is a powerhouse offensively, or ever has been.

Huberdeau could be a better bet, as I have a lot more faith in him to be a good offensive guy. Not saying Granlund won't, or couldn't, but I like Hub a lot better.

Not sure how deep your draft picks go, but you could also try for a couple first round picks or something along those lines, if a GM is willing to sell the future to try and win now.

I need help on my thread: http://hockey.dobbersports.com/index...d.php&t=148799

It's a lot to read, but I like to lay out all the details when I can.
A simple "Team A wins" or "Team B wins" would do, but I always like hearing opinions.
Thanks!

I admit that I'm a bit surprised that Kunitz is being more highly valued than Granlund. Maybe I've gotten used to him being so underrated. Regardless, I've turned it down and will wait for other offers or for this owner to up his. Hanging onto Kunitz wouldn't be an issue either.

Thanks everyone for your help! I've handed out as much rep as I can and will catch the rest of you tomorrow. Cheers.

Keep Kunitz. As long as Kunitz remains a Penguin, he's going to rack up big points playing along side a healthy Crosby, and if you don't believe in him to be a solid player you can still trade him out for a better return than Granlund.

While I doubt this to be the new normal for Kunitz, I expect something along the lines of the middle between last years production and this years production. Granlund hopes to be is good as what Kunitz is doing with Crosby right now, and he's still a good ways away from it, and it isn't a guarentee he ever gets there.

In order to trade off Kunitz for a prospect with limited NHL experience, you'll have to get a guy at like Yakupov/Huberdeau level. It's not easy to find a consistent 30 goal scoring LW anymore, so consider Kunitz a top 15 winger moving forward.

I thought Kunitz was undervalued before, but it's starting to look like I was undervaluing him as well. Hopefully I can find something like Huberdeau or Yakupov in exchange for him, but if not I'm happy to hang onto him for my run next year. Thanks for your help guys.
