Default Marchand, long-term

I own Brad Marchand in a keeper. There is no chance of me getting Seguin. Do you think it's wise to hold on to him for the sake of his place on the team, or should I trade him at 80-ish% value for a different project player? I could net an ok return for what I paid for him. His +/- is so nice to have, but so hard to find. His shots & PIMs help, but he's pretty low-level on the peripheral stats (he scores PPP, SHP, GWG, just not consisitently). I think I'd get the most value out of him if I went after draft picks. Thoughts??

To me Marchand is a good role player who benefits from his more talented line mates. I think he will produce consistently in the future at his current level, but I don't see much if any upside personally.

He's been one of the best forwards for the B's so far this season and is very underrated as shown in the previous post. He is not merely a product of his line mates and will be a fixture in the Boston top six for some time with his speed, smarts and nose for the net. I think he's underrated (unless your a fan of the team) because he's one of those players most love to hate. I'm not sure what your options are over Marchand but don't sleep on this guy as all he has ever done is overachieve at every level and in fantasy hockey where it seems so many never live up to expectations that is fantasy gold.

Oddly enough, his fantasy value/people's perception of his value is almost exactly the same as Alex Burrows before people finally came to the realization that Burrows is actually a solid hockey player.

There are lessons to learn about Burrows too. Those types of guys take a lot of abuse. Burrows peaked at 67 three years ago but every other season was 52 or less.

Thumbs up

Excellent input. Much appreciated. i've been kicking some tires around the league (over-"value"-ing him in trade offers). I've been saying the same thing to these guys! Marchand does have good linemates, but he wants to win. With them, or without them, he wants to win. Defensive play has become an important factor in my team mentality, I knew I was right. THanks guys.

Also, I made 2 HUGE moves yesterday/last night that I want to post about & would love to hear any/all feedback.

the comparisons to burrows and maybe hartnell as a role player and complementary player are good - but i think his upside is limited to no more than 60 pts, and his peripherals as you said are not that amazing.

And look what I found a week later. Maybe he won't be so underrated after all.
