Oh I was just venting. I agree in some sense it would be better to wait(See below though)

Think Lu's value is diminishing with the stellar numbers he's posting?
I don't really think this matters alot. There are a few quality goalies who might or will become available at a better cost contract wise...Backstrom, Hiller etc.
They just wont get alot for luongo. It doesnt make sense. I think as Ross said earlier trading cory may be the better option if they want a better return.

Are the wins making you think Gillis should move him more quickly?
Nothing to say

Is it the lack of locker room drama that seems to be coming out of Vancouver?
Heres my problem. It could become an issue. I know Id hate to have someone always looking over my shoulder though

Is it because the Canucks non-existent NHL-ready 3rd goalie is toiling away in the minors?
NHL ready? Thats yet to be seen.

Or is it the fact that you're unhappy Schneider isn't starting enough games for your fantasy team?
Haha well that too.

No real 'elite' center there....

Vancouver does not need Kesler to go to the third line to win a cup. Kesler on the third line would be an all-star team and ridiculously stacked.

Im not saying Schroeder is the answer, but Kesler on the third line is just not realistic.

I agree Kesler is a very solid 2nd line Center

If Vancouver does bring in an above average 3rd line two way, agitating, shutdown center....I think everyone agrees their chances of winning the cup double.

Someone like Mike Fisher would be interesting.

Ah you know what I mean. They need more 2 way forwards.

Kelly was amazing in the playoffs. Bergeron, Krejci, Chara and TT the other factors.
Detroit with Dats / Zetts as 2 of the best two-way forwards in the game. Holmstrom and Draper hounding Crosby. Lidstrom the other factor.
LA had Stoll, also had Mike Richards and Dustin Brown. Quick the other factor.
Chicago lost half their team after they won. Depth.

The Nucks with the Sedins on the first line and Kesler on the second isn't going to cut it. Yes they can keep Kesler on the 2nd line and bring someone in 'like' Fisher to play, making 2 strong two-way lines. The Sedins lack of two-way play (because of hardly any Dzone starts) makes an even greater emphasis to have 2 lines stacked with great two-way forwards. Look at the names above. Great two-way forwards. Vancouver? Kesler, Burrows, Higgins? Yes. Schroeder, Kassian? Maybe, too early to tell. Lapierre? 4th line. The Nucks need better two-way depth through the end of their bench. Schneider should be able to fetch that. Luongo? Nope.

Lou's probably got 3-4 excellent years left in him, give or take. His contract still has almost 10 years remaining on it at 5.33M (cap hit) per. The math just doesnt add up for most teams.

Year Actual AHL Actual NHL cap hit

2012-13 $6,714,000 $6,714,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2013-14 $6,714,000 $6,714,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2014-15 $6,714,000 $6,714,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2015-16 $6,714,000 $6,714,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2016-17 $6,714,000 $6,714,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2017-18 $6,714,000 $6,714,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2018-19 $3,382,000 $3,382,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2019-20 $1,618,000 $1,618,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2020-21 $1,000,000 $1,000,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333
2021-22 $1,000,000 $1,000,000 $0 $0 $5,333,333

Even if we were generous and said Lou had 5 good years left in him, his 6th year is still costing a team 6.7M in actual salary (including this year). He's less then a month from turning 34 years old. He will be 40 years old before his salary drops to 3.38M.

This is just a bad contract that most teams will not want to touch. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see why.
he can walk away after 5-6 years, then Vancouver and the team who takes him gets a penalty of about 2 mill per season. Which isn't ideal but its not as bad as you make it out to be, especially for a top tier goal tender.

Wow. Luongo's first inconsistency, just unfortunate that his porousness was exacerbated by no Bieksa and a red-hot Wings squad. Schneider's been more inconsistent than Luongo has.
