Default What's up with Ryan Johansen

Anyone watch much of him?

Stat sheet can be a little misleading, but it is hard to argue with 10gp, 2a.

The boy has the tools to be an Ace, just not sure if he'll get there.

Anyone catch much CBJ action?

First day of training camp, he looked completely out of place. Day after day his confidence grew, and he actually had a great start to the season. But somewhere along the way, he hit a wall. Management saw it and sent him down to Springfield, despite the fact that the team (Columbus) probably needed him.

It was a clear message to try and get him to re-focus, because after all, he has been playing great in Springfield. With Jack Johnson just placed on the IR today, Johansen got re-called and should be in the lineup tonight vs. Chicago.

I would say the biggest roadblock in his way right now is Mark Letestu who has been surprisingly good. Letestu has the coaches confidence and plays on the PK and the PP, and often times is one of Columbus' most effective players.

That being said, with Anisimov and Dubinsky out, now is Johansen's time to shine. He just needs to work on his consistency right now and his mental strength. That's the key.

Obviously he's not becoming a rockstar overnight,

But what are your expectations for him now, and down the road?

He's at a very pivotal point in his career...he's gotta find a way to really be a consistent NHL threat. How he plays in the next 10 games will really be a sign to his maturity level. Quite honestly, I wouldn't make a judgment until I see how he handles himself over that period.

Right now he's doing his best to act like other Blue Jackets' first round picks.

Defensively, he has improved quite a bit, especially on faceoffs. Style-wise, he likes to pass and create for others which can be a liability if you're playing with stiffs. I think they felt his offensive game has suffered with so much focus on being a 2-way player. I must agree here. With the new management, they probably felt stick him in the AHL in an offensive role and bring him up next season. Columbus is going nowhere anyways this season.
