Default Galchenyuk vs JVR

Top team in signature.

My JVR + Hedman & Carlson (not keeping either D) plus a high pick

for

Galchenyuk.

Am I buying too much into the hype?
I personally feel that Galchenyuk will be a stronger keeper for me than JVR.

Side note: huge personal bias here as I'm a Habs fan and usually try to avoid having leaf players on my team. Also I don't mind "overpaying" as long as I'm not moving too many keepers. That high pick probably wouldn't get me anything special as our league is pretty deep. I also feel that I have a pretty young core and hopefully all will "click" at the same time over the next few years and make my team a strong competitor.

I'd probably do it. Galch will be better in 1-2 years. And like you said. Personal bias for him. Might as well own a guy you'll enjoy cheering for. It's why I rarely own Flames players. Feel dirty being happy when they score haha

I'm not a fan of ''giving'' assets for nothing.

I think that JvR Hedman + a pick for Galch is more than reasonnable, unless the Galch owner is absolutely stacked on D and doesn't need Hedman...

This hurts you short term also, are you contending?

Wow. I totally get playing the hunch and even wanting to own a possible next great thing on your favorite team, but that's an awful lot for a guy who's 15 games into his career and may become a stud one day. But if you're set on making him a godfather offer, that'd about do it. Just realize that you're paying at a level quite a bit higher than where Galch currently is (in my opinion, of course).

I could probably make the playoffs but I know of 4-5 teams in this league that are significantly better than mine and my strategy was to focus on building a core set of keepers.

The trade has now evolved to:
Galchenyuk & Parenteau

for

JVR, Perron, Hedman, Carlson and a pick.

So basically I replace my JVR & Perron for Galch and Parenteau.

This does hurt me short term but in a 48 game schedule anything can happen and I'd rather use this year to focus on rounding out my core of forward keepers.

True.

I feel he's pretty close to a "can't miss" prospect. I don't see a lot of risk with him. He's already proven he can produce at the NHL level and he is certainly the cornerstone forward for the Habs Franchise at this point in time. Also like I said, I don't really value the Hedman & Carlson assets all that much since I have AP, Subban and J Shultz as well.

that a pretty much sums it up for yourself. i'd be able to live with the overpayment of adding in Hedman OR Carlson plus the pick, but both is too much IMO. this guy knows your a sucker forthe Hab guys and is playing that for all its worth...even if the D-men are not keeprs

Fantasy Trading 101..Lesson 3, ALWAYS take advantage of an opossing GM by over-maximizing the return in trade based on the devotion for thier team and /or thier "guy".

I personally think you are giving up too much to get your "man". But if you really want him and the other GM knows you really want him then this is what you might have to pay to get him.

At least try doing the deal without one of the Dmen.

It's nice to get the player but sometimes it's best to look somewhere else for a similar player who could be had for half the price.

Yeah I'd see if you can drop Hedman from the deal. Guy is actually putting up points now, so you might be able to send him off in a deal elsewhere and get a bit of value, where as here I feel you're just dumping him
