I agree that Karlsson is in a league of his own when it comes to D-man as of right now, but please please do not compare him to Bobby Orr. Karlsson has had 1 SUPERB season last year and is off to a good start in this shortened season thus far. He has improved defensively over the past couple years, but to say he is approaching Orr status just isn't right. Karlsson will be a force for many years no doubt. But not until he can string 4-5 full seasons, like the one last year, can you truly have any sort of argument.

This is all very true...

...and right now he's looking like he could do just that. He's very confident and has the skills to more than back it up. With experience he's just going to become more and more solid. He's only 22 and already looks like a much more seasoned player. Tons of fun to watch him out there.

For the sweet love of everything that is holy in the hockey world, stop comparing good young d-men to Bobby freakin Orr!! There is not a defenceman in the world right now who even comes close to being Bobby Orr!!!

Karlsson is great and could potentially be a generational defenceman in the vein of Lidstrom. But until he consistently proves that for at least 4 or 5 years, he is not even close to "approaching" that kind of territory.

Remember Ev, your buddy Mike Green used to have this sort of hype applied to him too after his two 70+ point seasons.

Fine, fine.

Eric Karlsson is the Wayne Gretzky of defencemen.

Better?!

Haha I meant never was a huge Karlsson guy before. But after his Norris season and his even better play now, for sure. Guy's in a league of his own.

I know it's stupid to say and gets overrused for sure. I definitely think he is approaching Lidstrom status though. That gets overrused to, but it fits with Karlsson. He is approaching that territory, you gotta watch him. NHL people are aware, it's time for fans to be aware of it as well. They gameplan around him but can't stop him. He is approaching generational status, and I only have that applied to Crosby. I don't throw these things around lightly.

Also Mike Green never had Karlsson's skill level and never controlled the play as much as he does.
