Here are some actual examples of poor sportsmanship:

Amen.

Let's not get hooked on the false dichotomy of sportsmanship vs celebration.

Are we to consider Burrows 'bow-and-arrow' goal salute in honour of Luc Bourdon to be 'bad sportsmanship'? It sure as heck isn't head down and skate to the bench behaviour but I have a hard time calling a tribute to a dead friend and teammate unsportsmanlike.

Yes Burrows is a little shit a lot of the time, and I certainly wouldn't hold him up as an example of sportsmanship, but that doesn't make the example any less valid.

I didn't say that at all, but having watched what has happened in the NFL in the last 25 years its hard to ignore the connection between that kinda showboating and the decline in sportsmanship in the game.

I sincerely hope Yaks takes his cues from Selanne instead of Ovechkin going forward and grows the **** up

The fact that this is being linked to sportsmanship and immaturity instead of the hit Simmonds took to the head is pretty pathetic.

and the fact that you're arguing solely for the sake of being contrary is also pathetic but whatever, knock yourself out bub...if you wanna talk about how shitty the Simmonds hit was then go to that thread, you'll get zero argument from me on that front

I'm not arguing just to be a contrarian. I've made my points. You're the one who has trouble accepting anyone's opinions that don't align with your own. But whatever, you can write another reply calling me bub 83 times. Knock yourself out.

i do accept your opinion, i just don't agree with it, since when did that become an issue on these forums?

and yes you are being contrarian, its your new found passion to just disagree with me for the sake of disagreeing...I could say 'Go Habs Go' and you'd find something to take exception over. Maybe you find it fun, I dunno, I think its sorta sad but whatever, have fun

I am gonna give Yak a pass on this one and chalk it up to immaturity/getting caught up in the moment of the game. Over the top, yes, I think so. I would bet a guy like Smyth sat him down for a chat after the game and applauded his enthusiasm, but told him to settle down on the celebrations.

I grew up playing rugby, and in that game, there is such an un-spoken respect for your opponent that you do not celebrate after a try. You run back and get ready to play defence. The most you might get is a quiet "good job" or a pat on the ass.

I sure as hell don't want to see hockey go down that road! A little self control/discipline and respect for your opponent is needed. But I don't want to see celebrations taken out of hockey. Lets all let better judgement prevail!
