No chance.
The "Winnipeg treatment" is only a short-term thing because they were previously Atlanta and the owners have to accept their position when they buy the team and relocate it. It was only two seasons (last & this) that Winnipeg had to play in the Southeast conference. With "expansion" the NHL can set a price for the expansion team to pay. And you can bet a team is going to pay WAY more if they know they'll be in a division with THE Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, etc. I, personally, think Florida & Tampa Bay are more likely to be split up (if needed). The only advantage to having them in the same conference is they'd have 2-3 games a year where they'd travel to the other Florida team instead of up north. It's not significant enough to HAVE to keep them in the same division. |
