Default Yakupov vs Tarasenko

I personally think that Yak has more upside. But by how much? I have the 1st overall pick in our draft and we must play a rookie. I'm considering drafting a more developed Tarasenko instead of Yak. Am I nuts? It's a full multi- keeper league. Somebody bring me some sanity as I pick tomorrow! ...... Thx in advance

Tarasenko for me. He's got a few years of development on Yaks, and less traffic to top minutes. I know it's early ...yada...yada...yada, but there hasn't been a better looking rookie than Tarasenko.

youre right Kevinsrangers but Karlsson was 15th overall and erik johnson was 1st overall...

look at them now... who is better....??

dont want to go against you but my point is simply the draft selection does not reflect how the guy will develop.( is it a word ??haha )

For your question its close.

Look at the last 1st overall

RNH
Hall
Tavares
Stamkos
Kane
Crosby
Ovechkin
Nash
Kovalchuk

Yakupov should become a really special player too. Tarasenko would for sure have been selected a lot faster then 16th ( or so) in the draft if wasnt Russian.

I think Tarasenko is a better defensive player
I think they are both = for scoring ( or real close, both at 14 goals pace in KHL for 31 games but Tarasenko was playing with Kovalchuk)
I think they have the same speed ( or real close)
I think Tarasenko will have more hits.
Tarasenko is already bigger and stronger physicaly. ( is it a word too ??)

so of course it is real close... I really like what Tarasenko is showing at the beggining of this season + he was solid in KHL and at the world junior.

I would choose Tarasenko because i prefer his style and he easily have 1st line ice time.

he was on the ice last night with one minute left and they were trailing 3-2. He will be all star player.

I'll go with the unanimous #1 pick, who traditionally has been a very safe bet over the years if you look at what the alumni have achieved.

Tarasenko is sexy, but jesus people - it's only been 3 games (and he was scoreless last game... funny how there are no posts about that).

Yakupov easily.

Thx for the input so far guys..... Rep coming....... I agree with all sides here so far. Can't go wrong with either. Tarsenko might be able to transition a bit quicker & help my team this year. I must play a rookie & this is what is swaying me to Tarasenko so far.

I also agree that 1st overall is no guarantee of "elite" status

If their output this year matters, than I go with Tarasenko for sure. I originally thought Yakupov would be a big producer right out of the gate as a rookie, but he's really left me unimpressed over the last year or so and I think there might be a relatively lengthy adjustment period for him to the NHL.

Long-term I like Yak, but it's super close between these guys they're probably the top two prospects in the world in my opinion.

i agree with yakupov, but to say it has only been 3 games for tarasenko is silly. tarasenko has been very productive with limited ice-time playing in the khl for years now including playoff hockey. yak hasn't proven any more in the nhl than tarasenko has... so if you use that argument, it has to play both ways. if you look at big games, like their respective wjc's yakupov has been very underwhelming... i say yak, but i think in 10 years, these two will both have good numbers.

Go with the 1st overall pick. You won't regret it.
