I think it would be silly and childish if they did hold it against Doughty.

Not true at all. While Markov is an All-World player, he's far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far too injury-prone and old (for an NHL player that is) and his performance in no way should influence Subban's contract negotiations. Anything Markov does now is simply a short term fix. Montreal needs to sign Subban or trade for equal value, the latter of which would be difficult, but not impossible.

How does this make sense? Did Chris Pronger's arrival in Anaheim make Scott Niedermayer expendable? Did Messier make Gretzky expendable? No, they all make their teams better. Even if Markov was 100% healthy without any concerns isn't the team better with Subban than without???

yeah expendable is the wrong word for sure...but I think its fair to say that Markov's performance and the Habs success is putting some additional pressure on the Subban camp

The correct usage of "expendable" would be to claim that the surplus of bodies (and potential return of Subban) make Yannick Weber expendable.

But my feeling is he won't be traded, cooler heads will prevail, especially on Subban's side, he'll get tired of not playing and will be a little more careful and listen to his agent, and they'll sign him to a 2 year deal at $4m per.

That said, as I posted last year, I would offer him long term at $5M+ per year, but based on all that's happened since, I get the distinct impression that Habs management is very concerned about his impact in the locker room - I have heard from people close to current NHL players that he is not at all liked in the room, apart from his buddy Price.
How bout Bobby Ryan instead.

Just some rumblings that I saw over at Broad Street Hockey in the comments:

Quote:
According to @JoshRimerHockey #Flyers have contacted #Habs regarding #Subban

-James Stephan (@J_Habs)

Reports say the Philadelphia #Flyers have contacted the #Habs about P.K. Subban, with Sean Couturier being a potential return.

-David O’Connor (‏@DavidOConnorTHW)
Take it as it is, more rumors.
