I agree. My guess is they think that Johnson is more NHL ready at this point. Could be wrong, but that's my guess for 3rd option. LBI on goalies are not usually a good thing, so probably best if you grab Larbarera for now.

I disagree. I think the team believes in LaBarbera and would roll with him until he proves he can't handle (the truth) it. LaBarbera is better than those three at this point in their careers, at least in my humble opinion.

If he's out for a while I hope he goes on IR quickly so that I can find a replacement on Yahoo.

The question was who is #3 and the potential call up. I agree that Labarbera will get the bulk of the starts. He's capable of some good stretches. He'll get every opportunity to be the temporary #1.

I'm thinking they roll with Barbs, but as a backup I could see them picking someone of the WW up, I don't think they'll be confident with Johnson as a backup to Barbs.

As per an Arizona newspaper a little hope for Smith owners:
oalie Mike Smith left the ice during a TV timeout with nine minutes remaining in the first period with a lower-body injury. He did not return and is day-to-day. Smith will travel to San Jose, where the Coyotes will play tonight, but goalie Chad Johnson is expected to be an emergency call-up from the American Hockey League. The Coyotes don’t think Smith’s injury is long-term. “Trainer came to me after warm-up (and) said, “Smitty’s a little tight. You might want to keep an eye on him,’” coach Dave Tippett said. “And then a little tight turned into can’t play.” |

From Rotoworld : Coach Dave Tippett doesn't believe that Mike Smith's injury is serious.
"Basically we caught it very early," Tippett said. "Hopefully it's nothing that lingers on too long." Smith was forced to leave Wednesday's game early due to a lower-body injury. For the time being, Jason LaBarbera will hold the fort in his absence. Hope he will back soon I really need him or I will need to trade for a goalie.

Both Yahoo and CBS are reporting that he will be good to go for Saturday's game. Whether Tippett chooses to play him or not, is another matter.

Not so fast people:
Backup Jason LaBarbera will get his second straight start in goal for the Phoenix Coyotes as Mike Smith continues to be out day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The Coyotes entertain the Los Angeles Kings Saturday night. LaBarbera allowed four goals on 34 shots in his previous start this week, a 5-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
