Yeah really wtf? Why didn't they... I know a 7th round pick is whatever but still.

If they claim him off waivers, they need to keep him on the team. By allowing him to clear waivers, they can assign him to their AHL team.

2 Reasons.

1) Carter Hutton was involved in that brawl with Grand Rapids, good chance he is hurt - so Rockford will need goalie help

2) Hawks will not carry him on the NHL roster, thus claiming him would not work for them, they had to make a trade to send him to AHL.
