I'm naive to this so is it the same thing? Only reason I'm asking is for Yahoo purposes, cause I want to know if non-roster players get IR status on Yahoo. Anybody know?

as far as i know player needs to be ir in nhl to get ir in yahoo

they might give him NA status not sure though

Players do get NA status but they still take up a roster spot and can not be placed on IR. A non-active player in Yahoo is simply a waste of a roster spot

my family league has rules for NA players

Yes, only IR players get IR status.
A guy that is demoted to the minors, or doesn't have a contract will just show up as NA.
NA players are like regular "active" players... they are either on your roster or bench.

I was asking because reporters are saying Jake Gardiner will be put as a non-roster player with his concussion. I've never heard of this, usually it's IR or they're just day to day.

i read this morning that briere will be given the same treatment

No idea but just wondering - in that situation is that the same as LTIR (Long term IR)? If so, then they are still officially IR but off the books (I think)?
