One year H2H G A +/- PPP SOG PIM
My team is really LW heavy and I'm looking to improve the quality of my RW. Tarasenko came out to a hot start but now he's cooling down and the ice time is steadily decreasing. My league mates still have major hard on for Tarasenko, so I was thinking of the following offer Tarasenko + Plekanec for Semin + Stastny I'm not a fan of Stastny's chances but I do like Semin and I feel like he's done well despite people's opinions of him. I asked a few people their thoughts via text and have, so far, gotten a resounding no from everybody. They dont think im getting a good enough return. Am I crazy because I feel like it would be a decent enough return and a good sell high on Tarasenko. Thoughts? Thanks. |

In one-year leagues it's always a good idea to sell high on rookies unless they're generational talents like Crosby and Ovechkin. Tarasenko it's not in that class so sell high. He doesn't get enough minutes to sustain his current scoring pace.
I despise Alex Semin but in one-year league he's a better own than Tarasenko. Pleks vs Staz is close enough. I like the deal as it is for you. You should get more production going forward from Staz and Semin this year. That said, maybe you should get a bit more in return considering their seasons so far?

In a one-year I'd swap my Tarasenko for the Seminator in a heartbeat.
Semin's getting solid minutes, looks like he's averaging 20min/game.

I guess my question is more, is Stastny close enough to Plekanec. Carcillo seems to think so and I kind of did too before I got such adamant responses that I wasn't getting enough |

In a one-year, I think Plek is considerably a better bet than Stastny. Montreal seems to be clicking early.
But, I think you're getting a good enough upgrade from Tarasenko to Semin. As Carcillo said, there's a good bet the rookie will hit some real slow spots this season. Hitchcock wont' give him a big leash either.

In a 1 year format...I'd sell high and I think you're getting enough return if you can swing it. You're taking the more proven route for sure.
I love Tarasenko and have watched a number of Blues games. He's the real deal, but, I think for this year, there are going to be some growing pains.....and with Hitch as the coach....he'll definitely see his ice time and PP time go up and down (and down further when he's making sillt defensive errors).

Bondon, my feeling is that you should do it. My reasons:
- It's a 1-year, and most of Tarasenko's huge value lies in what he will do in future years, NOT what he will do this year (despite the hot start). - Tarasenko is getting reduced minutes, as you mentioned, and even if he does everything Hitch asks he's still faced wth a scoring by committee team with tons of competition for PP time. Semin, on the other hand, is going to get primo time guaranteed, no way Muller is going to start giving him 15 mins TOI, take him off PP1, etc. - Semin is the most likely of the 4 players in this swap to give you the homerun, by far. Staal's playing well and once they start really gelling, Semin could end up with a 40-goal pace, lots of PPPs, of course huge SOG totals, and most people don't realize how good he is defensively (his plus minus may be decent). So, notice I didn't say anything about the Plek v Stastny part? That's because I don't like that part as much for you. Stastny has the higher ceiling but on his team, with those categories, I'm convinced Plekanec will give you better production this year, especially when you factor in SOG (Plekanec very solid, Stastny consisently weak) and of course plus/minus. That said, it's not enough of a difference to overcome the Semin advantage over Tarasenko. I'd do the deal.

I pretty much agree with what's already been said in the thread, I'd have to side with your assessment of this deal, bondon. Make the deal. Tarasenko started hot but it was almost inevitable that he'd cool off and see his minutes reduced. Obviously, in a keeper league this is a no-no but for this year, Semin and Stastny should give you the best production.

In a one year I like it. I'd try really hard to find someone besides Stastny, but as far as Tarasenko-Semin it's a good move.
As far as the minutes thing goes, he's not really losing minutes. He got up to about 17.5 minutes in one game, but other than that has been pretty consistently between 14-15 all season. So I'm not sure really sure where the "diminishing minutes" thought is coming from. Either way, it's still a good move for you. Ideally you can get a better piece than Stastny because I don't like him at all this year, but if you can't oh well it's still a good trade just for getting Semin.
