Default Who wants to audit a Blockbuster Trade?

I never ever pull off blockbusters without coming on the forum first and I have a feeling I will be raked over the coals for this one. It's good though, be brutally honest. League and team before trade goes through in sig. I'll give my justification alongside each player.

I give:
Stamkos (best player hands down, so there's strike one)
Tarasenko (completely unproven but tremendous upside)
Boyle (excellent, underrated but aging defenceman whose point totals are declining)
Anderson (solid but unspectacular goaltender on a team with two young guys chomping at the bit)
Markstrom (was going to be a drop for me anyway as I'm in win now mode and there's a possibility he wouldn't be keeper eligible anyway)

I get:
E Staal (solid across the board contributor who has better linemates this year)
Perry (a multi-cat stud who is coming off a bad-year)
Letang (I feel he is the top d-man in this league, scored at a 67-point pace last year, much younger than Boyle)
Fleury (Not a fan of him in leagues that count GAA and SV% but is still an upgrade to Anderson in every way, could package him for an even better goalie later on)

I gave up a fair amount of offense but if you look at my team, I had it to spare. I did not have a lot of grit other than Backes and Clowe. Staal, Perry and Letang all help with that while still being proven offensive players.

I also have an extra roster spot now which I plan on using on one of the following on the WW: Strome, Zibanejad, Cervenka, Scheifele, Palmieri, Wolski or Khudobin.

Anyway, there's my justification, now let's hear yours! Like I said, if you hate this trade for me, let me know why. I'm a big boy, I can handle it.

Not bad. I suspect you're over estimating the importance of PIMs - is Perry going to give you enough Penalty minutes to overcome the point differential between him and Stamkos? I wouldn't bet on it, but I don't know your scoring system.

Still:

Letang >> Boyle (now and in the future)
Fleury > Anderson

So it really comes down to is it worth giving up Tarasenko and Stamkos to get Staal and Perry. I'd consider losing Markstrom a big deal too, but you seem to think it's a non-issue so I'll leave it out.

Without Markstrom, I think Tarasenko and Stamkos for Staal and Perry is not a bad deal, especially when you consider the upgrades you're getting. I'm assuming you'll be able to dress all these players? Unless you were planning on Tarasenko being active, someone will get bumped off your active roster for one of Staal or Perry. Who is being displaced?

I think Stamkos should fetch you Perry/Letang alone....even with that format.

I'd say win

Staal and Perry > Stamkos and Tarasenko
Letang > Boyle
Fleury > Anderson and Markstrom

I mean if Markstrom turns into a comparison to MAF next year and Tarasenko is like Kovalchuk then ya you might lose. But for this season I'd say big win.

Where will Staal and Perry line up? RW, LW or C?

F: Stammer/Tank >>> Staal/Perry - Hate seeing Stamkos go. Won't need to explain that. Big gap age-wise too. Staal/Perry is peaking now whereas S/T certainly aren't.

D: Letang >> Boyle. Age. Opportunity. All favour Letang.

G: Fleury = Anderson/Markstrom. Goalie in prime (MAF) vs combo of starting to slide downwards but still solid (Anderson) and golden child lacking only opportunity (Markstrom). Hard to see MAF convincingly beating out your established starters of Rask & Schneider so I can't really call this a big upgrade in goal.

Depthwise, an argument can be made to do the deal but I see the trade as a swap of prime career years from F to D for you. I wouldn't do it myself (Stamkos really should be an untouchable in all formats) but I wouldn't fault you if you pulled the trigger.

Thanks for the input man.

Daily lineup changes in an H2H league so it's a steady rotation. Plus with all my duel eligibility players and an extra F spot, even if all my guys are in action, I can dress my best players regardless of position.

As far as Markstrom goes, our goalies must have played 10 (reduced for the short season) career games to qualify as a keeper. Markstrom has 8 so unless Theodore or Clemmenson get injured, he may not qualify. Also, I'm definitely a front-runner to win it this year, so holding a roster spot for an inactive player is not an option. We keep 15, so there is no guarantee Markstrom would have cracked that anyway for me with the team I have.

If it was a full keeper, or if we had a farm, I would definitely not have included Markstrom.

I agree, but I don't feel what I threw in to be huge pieces on my team at this point.

Thanks man. If Markstrom doesn't get called up this year, he's ineligible as a keeper anyway. And I can't waste a roster spot on someone not playing.

Tarasenko is what really hurts me but since we don't have a farm, proven is worth way more than potential.

Staal is C only but Yahoo is pretty free with dual eligibility so if he shifts to a wing I'm sure he will get it quickly. Perry is RW only.

Check out my sig though and you will see how many players I already have with dual eligibility, so positioning should not be a major factor.

Giving up stammer is huge. I think you didnt have to give back as much maybe no boyle. But it could work out. If staal is better with the more support you could be looking good with the multi cat production.

I agree.

I feel like this makes your team a whole lot better. You get a downgrade at center with Staal (he's no slouch though), but you get an upgrade at RW with Perry. You upgraded your D with Letang. Same in nets with Fleury...

Trades are not about winning, but making your team better. If a trade makes your team better and you got full value, then it's all that matters.
