Mid-Season Analysis:

HITS FOR SURE (3): Karlsson (injured), Spezza (injured), Cole (sucks)
HITS LIKELY (4): Giroux, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Nash
50/50 Possibilities (4): Perry, Cammalleri, Kessel, Parise
MISS BARRING INJURY (1): Stamkos

Forecasted final record: 8-4-0
(3x100%) + (4x75%) + (4x50%)
Not bad P7. I put coin on the Under of Giroux, Kessel, and Cole (just because you guaranteed it!) and the over on Parise. I really hope Parise gets that over. The team has looked a lot better recently so hopefully they can put forth a consistent effort from here on out.

Lupul is going to screw me over here because he's going to play more than 11 games, but he'll come no where near his over.

Plekanec is also doing much better than I expected.

Tavares and Neal for the Rocket could actually pull it off here....but Stamkos likely maintains his lead.

Gionta at 21.5 seems low though. That's a 37-point pace, a number he's hit every year since the lockout. Except for last year, when he was injured, and even then he was on pace for 40ish points.

Clarke MacArthur at 27.5 seems too high to me.

Henrik Sedin at 50.5 seems pretty high. I could see Vancouver struggling a bit with the distraction of two #1 goalies, Kesler injured, etc.

Never even knew you could bet on this stuff outside of Vegas. May have to try it out.
Pleks hit 33 points, so that was an under.

Gionta hit 26, so that's an over.

MacArthur finished with 20 points, so that's an under.

Henrik Sedin is at 45 points, so he would need seven points tonight for me to get that one wrong.

So I went four-for-four. Too bad I didn't bet. Fun to keep track of though. Maybe I'll give it a shot next year.

End of Season.
Time to take a look at my 12 over/under player picks for the year.

Quote:

Midseason Comment: Giroux has 25pts in 27games. On pace for 44pts.
He'll need 28pts in 21games to hit 53pts.
The ever-steady Giroux finished with 48pts in 48games. He is Mr. Point-Per-Game in my books, which is good enough for a HIT!

2. Alex Ovechkin, 50.5pts. UNDER.
Midseason Comment: Ovechkin has 20pts in 24games. On pace for 40pts.
He'll need 31pts in 24games go OVER.
Ovechkin's 2nd half was an absolute tear, recording 36pts in 24 games. A final total of 56pts... unfortunately, for me... is a MISS.

3. Erik Karlsson, 39.5pts. UNDER
67.5pt pace is just too high. I have serious doubts that any of EK, Spezza, Michalek can repeat last year.
Mid-season comment: Um... I think I can give myself a CHECKMARK HERE.

4. Jason Spezza, 44.5pts. UNDER
Ditto.

5. Corey Perry, 43.5pts. UNDER
Midseason Comment: Perry has 24pts in 24games. On pace for 48pts.
He'll need 20pts in 24games to go OVER.
Perry hit a wall after a 4-game suspension and finished with just 36pts.

6. Mike Cammalleri, 31.5pts. UNDER
Midseason Comment: Cammalleri has 17pts in 21games, missed 3. On pace for 34+pts.
That little punk... Cammalleri... 32pts. Darn it!

7. Phil Kessel, 46.5pts. UNDER
Mid-season comment: Kessel has 23pts in 26games. On pace for 43pts.
He'll need 24pts in 22games to go OVER.
Kessel finished with 52pts... very impressive... and ANOTHER MISS!

8. Steven Stamkos, 55.5pts. UNDER
Mid-season comment: Stammer has 37pts in 25games. He's way OVER pace.
I really needed Stammer to hit a wall... he did, but his momentum took him through the wall to 57pts, another MISS.

9. Ilya Kovalchuk, 47.5pts. UNDER
Mid-season comment: Kovy has 23pts in 26games. On pace for 43pts.
He'll need 25pts in 22games to be OVER.
Kovalchuk got injured shortly after mid-season and finished with just 31pts. Injuries, ah yes, the main reason to bet the UNDER. HIT!

10. Erik Cole, 32.5pts. UNDER. (*I'll make this my GUARANTEE. Yikes!)
Mid-season comment: Cole has just 7pts in 23games.
I don't think I could have nail a better guarantee. Just 13pts in 47 games for Cole. I absolutely dominated this pick! BIG BIG HIT

OK, OK... two overs... just to force myself to do it. (I'm not an optimist)

11. Rick Nash, 40.5pts. OVER.
Yes, I see him as a point-per-game guy.
Mid-season comment: Nash has 23pts in 20games, though he has missed 4 games.
If he misses another 4 games in the 2nd half, he'd still pace for 46pts.
Several people have bashed Nash as "same ol' guy", but anybody that has watched him play in NYR knows he's been fantastic this year.
He's a definite point-per-game player when healthy... that's all that will hold him back with the talent with NYR.
Nash scared me... having only 40pts on the final game of the season. He put up 2 goals to finish at 42pts. Thank you Rick, kept me from being "average"

12. Zach Parise, 40.5pts. OVER
Mid-season Comment: Parise has 19pts in 24games. He's on pace for 38pts.
It has sure felt like Parise has been underperforming all year, but he is top 10 in the NHL in SOG and the MIN PP has been much better of late... finally.
Parise needs 22pts in 24games for the OVER. Definitely still possible.
Parise missed at 38pts... not by much, but I still thought this was a good pick as I thought Parise would be a ppg guy. Oh dang, MISS.

Final standings:

HITS: Karlsson (injured), Spezza (injured), Cole (sucks); Kovalchuk (injured), Giroux, Perry, Nash
MISSES: Stamkos, Ovechkin, Cammalleri, Kessel, Parise

Final record: 7-5
My worst picks in my three years of doing this... but still on the PLUS side for the third straight year.

I hit 2/3 of my pre-season team bets:

Caps to win SE Division +225
Blues to win Central Division +200
Sens to make playoffs +350

All in all a net win for me.

Lupul screwed me over by getting hurt. His over/under was like 32 or something. Bet the Plekanec under 33.5 though!! I believe he ended with 33.
