1 year, 14 team, roto league. max games per position.
3C, 3LW, 3RW, 5D, 2G, 5 bench G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SOG, FW, HIT, BLK W, GAA, SV, SV% My roster: C: RHN, Stepan, Stastny LW: Ott (C), Landeskog, Franzen (RW) RW: Pavelski (C), Pomminville, Purcell D: Letang, Keith, Wisniewski, Visnovksy, Faulk G: Rinne, Ward B: Khudobin, Hedman, Ladd (LW), Horton (RW), Huberdeau (C) I am going to make a waiver call and trying to determine which player to drop. I think the candidates are Visnovsky, Huberdeau for sure and maybe Hedman and Faulk should be in the discussion. Humor me and accept that who I am making the call on isn't relevant to the decision about who to drop. I'm soft in G, A, and SOG so I would like to retain as much of those as I can but giving up Hedman might be giving up just as much away in hits and blocks so I am leaning towards keeping him. My gut tells me to give up Vis and my head tells me to give up Huderdeau. I have Pavs, Ott as dual with C - Franzen with LW/RW so I am not too concerned about getting max games at forward. What do you guys think?

1 year league drop Huberdeau as even if he has a good year and stays in the nhl he wont put up big numbers.rookies rarely do.
hedman id keep for the hits blocks and hes not bad enough in the point cats to really dammage much. visnovski id drop. even if he plays in the nhl (he will) he probably has burned some bridges with teamates and/or staff. i dont see him having a great year. with faulk i see an improvement from last year in his play and the play of his team so id also keep him. so i guess id drop Huberdeau and Visnovski.

I think you would have to drop Vis. We dont know if he will even play in the NHL this year. He didnt like the trade the NYI as he tried to fight it and now he says he is staying in Europe this year. Even if they force him to come back to the NHL, do you really want him on your team? You dont want players on your team who dont want to be paying in the NHL.

In a one year I wouldn't feel bad about dropping Huberdeau. That would be my choice, and I would not consider dropping Hedman. He's looked very good in the KHL, and he could bust out any year now in the NHL. He's got a good leg up on a lot of NHL'ers who haven't been playing elite hockey this season, so this could be the year.
Vis could still come to his senses and return, so I think he's worth keeping for now. Huberdeau will be very good in a few years, but I don't see him lighting it up right away at the NHL level. As you said, you've also got a couple guys who can slot in at C if a center goes down (Pavs and Ott), with respectable replacements on the wings if it comes to that, in Horton and Ladd. |

At this point Visnovsky looks like he will be in the KHL this year so I can not see how he is a bad drop option.
I am always cautious about dropping a player of Huberdeau's stature before training camp and the exhibition games. All it takes is one big night and you will likely be able to trade him for an inflated value, even in a one-year league. You could also keep an eye on the Visnovsky situation and if he returns re-evaluate then.

Pro's are pro's, if Vis comes back to play he will be useful and I like his PPP potential. However, if I need to cover some games at D there are some okay options on the wire, especially if I pull someone in to beef up a particular cat for some games. So given I want to make this move right away, Vis does become logical.
Huberdeau can sit for now, I keep wondering if he might get dual eligibility and as Chuk suggests he could become trade bait fairly easily. So I am going to dump Vis, but it should be interesting to note that Cascade Filly's post is the one that convinced me even though he/she suggests Hubs. It got me thinking and looking again at the wire.

In my experience, a professional athlete who isn't impaired significantly by outside influences like drugs or alcohol, etc. will tend to perform to the best of their ability in a game situation because the competitive instinct overwhelms the little voices. Granted, general mental disposition can influence 'the best of their ability at the time' but a guy like Vis has long been a producer in this league and I don't see that being a major issue. Isn't Nabbie's case quite similar?
