Default The Value of a D-man

hey, simple question. If you can take a 90 point guy like Cheechoo or Jokinen (a 90 point guy dont worry about the examples) or a Defenseman who could get you 65-75 points, like Gonchar or Whitney, what do you do? Where do you make the cut off? I\'m at a crossroads. My thinking is to take the sure thing D man, and take a flyer on a forward later on who has the potential to rip it up and will be available late, where as D men are few and far between!

Thanks

If you have to carry D-men, then I would say take the d-man, cause you are right, it is easier to find a forward who can make you up those points than it is to find a d-man.

i agree with the others, take the D man. Last years pool winner was decided by defencemen,we have 25 man rosters with each team having 8 D men. I didn\'t do the exact math on the difference between the forwards from 1st to 2nd but it was close. The winner had a 30 point difference because of a better group of defenders. It was interesting to see just how valuable the D men were come deadline time.

It depends on how many forwards, and how many defencemen you need to play. That being said, if you could draft a player like Aflredsson (with 100 point potential), I\'d still take him over Whitney.

K i hear ya, but what I\'d like to know is where is the cut off for a player like Whitney. I am taking Whitney as my TOP d man in my league, but when do I start looking at Whitney? 100 point forward? 90? 80? Gotta get this all sorted out before draft day!

How many defencemen do you have to carry? Is there any point differential for defence and forward?

If you have a requirement to carry defence then you give them priority over the forwards simply because there are few offensive defencemen. If you are able to get Whitney you should give him priority. If he isn\'t available then I take the forward in the first round and the defenceman in the second round. But the forward has to be a sure 80/90 point guy.

That is my approach.

9 offense guys 4 D men 2 goalies.

a point is a point, we\'re running it through YAHOO, with 7 point categories 4 goalie categories. pretty standard. im gonna take whitney, and stack my D up, find some sleepers from DOBBER throughout the draft and find my goalies at good value picks throughout the rounds!
