My keeper deadline is in 5 days and there is still no clear indication of wether Kovy is coming back. Am I freaking out for no reason?

I need to pick my 6 keepers and I was pretty sure. Any thoughts?

i wouldnt worry he is coming back

Kovy will be back. Too much money on the line plus I believe the IIHF won't let him play in the Olympics next year in Russia if he doesn't play his contract with the Devils.

I think he'll be back.

But I would also wager we're being a bit small-minded if we think staying in the KHL isn't an option for guys like Kovalchuk. We can cite $80m left on his NHL deal, but he probably would make more, tax-free, in Russia...and it's his home country.

He's been in the NHL for nearly a decade and barely seen any playoff hockey other than this past season, he's stuck with a team that has a foggy future, with a contract that means he's really unlikely to be traded, with a team that won't buy him out because it's basically bankrupt anyways.

Russia would probably be a decent option for Kovalchuk, especially if he's thinking "been there, done that" even a bit about the NHL.

The likely kicker would be concerns about missing the 2014 Olympics. To me, that's the big carrot for Russian players.

I wouldn't be worried. I would be shocked if Kovalchuk didn't come back, absolutely shocked.

Thanks for the reassurance. My deadline for keepers is Sunday at midnight, so I guess I should save my worrying for Sunday afternoon or evening. Hopefully it won't be a problem.
