Jared Knight - strong prospect on a good team
Rocco Grimaldi - hit-or-miss prospect who is a few years away Zach Hamill - not much here, depth player at best Zemgus Girgensons - good support player moving forward Mathieu Perreault - should be a good point producer John Moore - will he ever be productive enough? Jamie Oleksiak - transitioning well to AHL, could be closer than some think Leland Irving - probably dead as a prospect Mikko Koskinen - long-shot as well but chances much better than Irving.

I'll chip in with some thoughts as well, as some differ from ed's.
Jared Knight - Good prospect, but probably not a high-end scorer. He'll be an NHL player in some capacity though, almost guaranteed. Rocco Grimaldi - Tons of talent, really small, long ways from an NHL career. He'll more than likely play all 4 years at UND, then a couple in the AHL. Worth holding onto though if you have a large enough farm. Zach Hamill - Nothing to see here. Definite trade bait but he won't get you much. Zemgus Girgensons - Very solid, 2nd or 3rd liner in the future. He definitely has value in your multi-cat league, though. Mathieu Perreault - Another little guy, but he definitely has the talent to put up points. He's shot 14.8, 17.1, and 26.7 percent in his 3 seasons (2 partial). Obviously those are pretty high, especially the 26, but it shows the kind of scoring ability he has. John Moore - Good prospect, but there are SO many young defenders in Columbus....he might get lost in the shuffle. Good trade chip though. Jamie Oleksiak - He's showing more offense than I expected, and could develop into a very good player especially in a multi-cat. Keeper. Leland Irving - I still believe in his chances....Brust and Taylor are only competition at the AHL level, Irving is still the best bet for an NHL future. Kipper is getting older, Karlsson is not starter material, and Ramo is only a maybe although he'd probably jump ahead of Irving if he came back to the NHL. He's worth holding onto unless you can add him into a nice deal. Mikko Koskinen - Not much to see here imo. He's firmly 3rd on the prospect chart behind Poulin and Nilsson. Not worth an outright drop unless you really need the space, but I wouldn't expect much from him, either.

I'll add more to Eric and Tony
Jared Knight - looks to filiter into Boston as a future #2-3 responcible center man who can post strong #s and able to be on the top line when needed, think Tomas Plekanec... he will take 2-3 years (beyond this season) to get there, but his hockey IQ and play makes him about 85-90%... Rocco Grimaldi - is a pure speed and scoring type... because of that the guys before stated he is questionable as he need to set himself appart from others and find a niche with chemistry... He is a longer road type guy and you want to home that he take the NCAA rount like Tony mention and when he comes out he will be built like a man and be ready than if he plays Jr then goes to the AHL for a few years (even tho thats the quickest route) Zach Hamill - is a failed top line prospect who was not responsible enough in his game... now he is a low end depth option unlikely to ever see more than a cup of coffee as a replacement forward for a game or 2 here and there or to finnish the year on a very poor team... Zemgus Girensons - he is a keeper as a player that adds to your teams depth.. don't expect much, he will just plug in and give you solid #s, personallly I like these guys, as they fly under the radar and you are rarely bothered to trade them, but also carre little value for most managers, look at my sig and you'll see Kunitz, Plekanec, Anisimov, Williams, Vlasic.... Mathieu Perreault - kind of similer to Grimaldi but has developed well and is a smaller player... he is poised to be either a niche 3rd liner that adds offence or break out and become a solid point producer amongst complete players like Eric believes... John Moore - he will be an NHLer, but I'm seeing more of a bottom pairing producer in him, will have up and down seasons depending on injuries and roles presented... unstable but still good enough to be there... like Tony says Columbus has many D I think I see Moore there for anouther year or less and he is traded off for something to help them... with Murray out for 6 months, he should have a role this year tho... maybe think about holding him, hopefully having a strong season and increasing his value, then trade for higher value after the season.... Jamie Oleksiak - he is going to be a good NHLer... and carry value in multi cat lgs with hits, blocked shots, PIMs to go with marginal points 30ish... He could be a top pairing stable D for a offensive minded partner and as Eric mentioned close 1 - maybe 2 years... he is just basically learing how to play against men and using size... This is a Dallas type kid and I'll even go as far as saying he may be leadership A or C material down the road... Leland Irving - future is uncertain as it won't be in Calgary, he is a type that should be backing up in the NHL now... but due to depth and oppertunity may get forced to the KHL... I wouldn't expect him to jump into your roster and help, if you need that look else where.... Mikko Koskinen - I really like this kid and I see him as a strong pro, but Islander depth is a small issue I dont feel it is that big of an issue as Poulin and Nilsson seem to have nagging injuries now and then and I feel hit talent is beyond them, but his stability and consistancy is not... That said his chances in the NHL are low as he isn't going to want to come back across and sit in the AHL waiting... he is more comfortable to play in europe infront of home fans and freinds and earn a larger than Minor Pro salery... Still worth holding as he should keep coming over for NYI/NHL camps and trying to earn an NHL job... He needs to continue being the workhorse in KaPal rather than split time else where...

Jared Knight - Gritty player with scoring touch. Plays bigger than size.
Rocco Grimaldi - Boom or bust. If he was 6'0" 200lbs with his build...psht! Zach Hamill - Fringe NHLer. Zemgus Girgensons - Will have a place in Buf's future top 6. Mathieu Perreault - Skilled, but needs a shot elsewhere. John Moore - Successful st AHL level and will be a good NHLer. Jamie Oleksiak - Has the tools to be a stud on Dallas' backend. Leland Irving - Battling for backup role. If he doesn't get it this year, he'll need a shot elsewhere. Mikko Koskinen - May end up overseas or as an NHL journeyman.

Some great comments here guys! These are the sorts of informed discussions I log in here hoping to find.
I really have very little more to add other than to throw some weight behind Girgensons. I see a surefire NHLer in him and that's HUGE in my books, so if you're not just chasing the big upsides and are satisfied with a guy who might give you 40-50 sooner than later he's my choice off the whole list. Guys like Grimaldi don't interest me in the least and I'd look to cash in on any hype there may be surrounding him. Sure he's talented but how many tiny talented players have wasted away in the AHL through the years. Dobbs has a soft spot for these guys so take his views with a grain of salt. |
