Default Draft Tomorrow

Was way too busy with work, school etc had to take a year off from fantasy hockey last year. Still was a huge hockey fan and payed attention to my Bruins as well as the league just not to the extent as usual. Wanted to get back into it. Have a money league draft tomorrow. Been doing plenty of research but could use some help.

One year league (on Yahoo!)
H2H (G A +/- PIM PPP SOG / W GAA SV% SHO)

1) draft strategies
2) players to target
3) how early to grab a goalie
4) anything else

Probably longer than your normal post so anyone who reads/replys, thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

Usually my strategy is to draft best available player and worry about position later (within reason) so big 5 (Crosby, Malkin, Ovie, JT, Giroux) then Lundy, Quick. Go with your gut. If you're deciding between a winger and a center of equal value, probably take the winger since quality wingers are harder to come by. With your goalie categories you probably want to take a goalie pretty early, and defensemen hold less value in your league without hits or blocks. I knows that's just a quick little bit if info but good luck!

Lastly, plan your picks but also plan your backups. My buddy in our draft knew who he wanted but the guy before him drafted that player, he got flustered and just took the first name he liked. He ended up taking Datsyuk over Malkin and Backstrom as they were both rated lower last year in the draft rankings (due to injuries the year before)

a lot of drafting can be very specific to the group of people you are drafting with

understanding when to do certain things is very dependent on the other people

one thing that never changes is runs

in a snake draft if you hold back to back picks or the ones on either side of them its very important you start the runs because if they are started right after your pick there is nothing left when it gets back to you

also if you have the pick on either side not the back to back you start the run with your second pick so you screw the guy with the back to back thats always fun
