[QUOTE=STONE.;1041597]Maybe the two sides did reach an agreement, and they are opting to further paint Fehr and Bettman as the villains by allowing it to get "resolved" in an owner-player only meeting.

A guy can dream, right?[/QUOTE

This thing is really starting to sound like the '04-'05 lock out. Different issues, but its really looking just like it. Same tactics. Same crap.

This was a dumb idea from the begining. The owners aren't going to let some guy tell them what they should or shouldn't do. They are just too arrogant for that. This was just a PR move and the fans and players know it. Yadda, yadda yadda.

I really thought this would of been settled by the end of October, but I under estimated the owners. Its their way or no way. This looks like it could go a while yet.

I was going to propose that they are guaranteed a playoff appearance within five years as well, but Toronto would want in on that clause too.

That was my first thought as well. It would be suicide for the players to negotiate this deal.

At very least they should have the presence of mind to send in Parros. You might as well use the guy who studied economics a Princeton. I think Bieksa was an econ student too..

And I'm pretty sure Parros can go whoop-ass on any owner if it comes to it.

The NHLPA just needs to send George Parros, Steve MacIntyre, John Scott, Shawn Thornton, and Jared Boll to the next meeting. If the owners don't accept everything the players propose, Fehr unleashes those guys on them.

This made me smile and brought some light to the situation for me. I'm tired of this debacle of a negotiation. What sucks for people like me who live in California is that it's hard to find quality hockey to watch in person or on TV. Shoot, I was thinking about watching AHL games, but it's 400 dollars for the equivalent package of Center Ice. Go figure. I guess I'm just going to have to go back to reading and writing a lot more. If hockey comes back, I know I'll turn around and watch the NHL again as I'm addicted to it, but I've become way more jaded about the league and I don't feel that the NHL is worthy to be a top sports league in the US.

Smart move by Bettman. Let's remember that the previous CBA was basically negotiated by players behind the back of their union leader so obviously Bettman is seeking a similar path right now. If and when PA declines the request, it's still one PR point for Bettman.

Since the mediation was non-binding, it was an exercise in futility right from the start. There's no incentive to actually negotiate because you're not bound to anything. It's a PR exercise.

Yeah, but Bettman isn't dealing with a chump this time, and the players actually trust Fehr.
