I can't believe I haven't weighed into this yet......but if I had to list my shows here is how it would go.

1. LOST.....yes I know the ending was bad. But nothing beats the excitement/dialogue myself and a core group of friends would have after every single episode. It defined a big part of my university life and my life in general. And still....best episode of any show Ive ever witnessed is the season 3 finale.

2. Breaking Bad....the intensity I feel while watching that show. Nothing beats it. Im talking every scene. Can't wait to see how it ends.

3. Game of Thrones....head chopping + nudity? Im in

4. Sopranos ..didn't watch it live so I can't compare to the three above. Great show though.

Taking aside obvious plot differences, Arrow and Homeland seem to be using a very familiar formula. (Homeland having been released first as it sits on S02E10, vs. Arrow at S01E07).

Without spoiling anything essential :

1) Both main actors return home after being rescued. Both have been away for several years.
2) Both shows have flashbacks to their time away and have struggle with family issues.
3) Both of them get accused for lying or hiding secrets, which the viewer knows about.
4) Both take a polygraph test and successfully cheat the system.
5) Both of them continually point out that they are no hero.
6) Both have a fling with someone who understands them / equally as broken.

I was having a deja vu flipping back and forth between series. Funny stuff.

To comment on some of the series in this thread....and yes, I am very bored right now lmao...

Never watched 24, The Sopranos or Lost...never really had much interest in doing so, even now. Watched the first episode of "Revolution" and was not impressed, didn't come back for episode 2. I refuse to watch True Blood. It aint happening!!

I've never been interested in Six Feet Under, Boardwalk Empire, Spartacus, Entourage, Dexter, Rescue Me, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy or Breaking Bad, and I don't know why, even though I know all those shows are very well regarded.

Finally started watching "Heroes" on Netflix...on around episode 6 or 7 of season 3. Heroes sure did have me hooked for the first 22 episiodes...then the last episode of season 1 came, and the very disappointing final "fight" scene w/ the heroes vs. Sylar left a bad taste in my mouth...season 2 was pretty unspectacular and we almost quit watching it. Season 3 is somewhat better, but its like the creators/producers started trying too hard for a "wow" factor...I don't know. We'll finish the series out...

On to my favorites...

The Walking Dead is easily #1 for me since episode 1 I've been hooked, and each passing episode makes me love the series even more...

American Horror Story is definitely my 2nd favorite show on television. I've actually enjoyed season 2 more than season 1, LOVE it. "Touch" is pretty interesting to me, it keeps me entertained but I don't LOVE the series. One show I don't think anyone mentioned that I really liked, if only because I'm a big Tim Roth fan, is "Lie to Me". Sucks they canceled that show.

At this point, I'm definitely willing to give Mad Men a chance...and possibly Boardwalk Empire, though I'm more unsure of that one. Some day, I plan on watching all of Band of Brothers, because even though I haven't seen it, it looks fantastic and I've never heard anything bad about it, really. My wife really loves "Once Upon a Time" and "Grimm" and I'll watch these shows with her, so she'll watch a show like "Louie" and whenever I want to watch hockey(or possibly a series such as Band of Brothers)

Other shows I'm somewhat intrigued to give a try include Fringe, Alphas, Homeland and Arrow.

And what Angus said about "The Wire"

Simply amazing characters and story lines.
And what ridinryan44 said about "Deadwood"

I love the style of language they use and it's downright dirty and deadly - just the way I'm sure it was. I believe it's the only tv show I've ever watched over again, and that's been five times.
Has me really wanting to check both those out now!!

Man neither Game of Thrones or The Wire are on Netflix. Those were the two I really wanted to watch after finishing Parks and Rec, so now I'm watching Jericho instead. I'm really liking it.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this one earlier in this thread (I'm cant be bothered to scroll back through) but another one I just thought of that was one of my favorites was Entourage. Not sure how I missed that one in my original list.

I'd say Entourage was a Comedy show, not a Drama. It won a numerous awards and all under the Comedy category.

Any fans of 'Boston Legal' here? That was an amazing show. Denny Crane and Alan Shore are one of the best characters seen on TV. Brilliant show.

I considered it more of a Dramedy but I can see where you are coming from. Probably why no one else has mentioned it in here.

One that I just thought of that no one mentioned was Boston Public. A crazy high school drama (where things were always happening, such as a teacher shooting a gun in school to get the kids' attention).

It was a little too over-the-top, but I really enjoyed it.

Finally finished "Heroes" off and I must say, no surprise that show didn't last. Season 2 really was crap and by the 1st half of season 3, I was ready to quit. My better half didn't want to quit, she wanted to finish it out lol...and while I believe the 2nd half of season 3 and season 4 were at least a step up, the show was victim to bad writing IMO.

When Heroes was done, we started watching "Alphas" and finished the entire 1st season. I'm hooked right now, it works for me. Watched about 4 or 5 episdoes of season 2...I think we're almost up to date on that one.
