Started watching Southland the other day. Solid cop drama - good acting - has one of the actors from Band of Brothers in it.

What I mean about the Sopranos was that the ending of the show was such a big deal and received a lot of attention. It doesn't seem that the show is getting as much love in this thread compared to other shows when you factor in the popularity of the show.
Like others were saying. The season got a little boring and slow. The mid season finale was awesome as well as the second half of the season. I think the whole story line about searching for the little girl and the boy getting shot were just kind of stupid. they were trying to hard to provide hope during a hopeless time.

Incidentally I am going to marry Stana Katic... she just doesn't know it yet.
I notice them sometimes, I haven't watched the new season yet.

She is great, I saw her in a movie the other day, I think she got a nose job at some point. She is gorgeous though. I might have to fight you for her.

This summer, my wife & I watched all 70+ episodes from the full five seasons using Netflix Instant. We'd watch about 2 episodes every night. Of the five seasons, season 2 was probably the weakest (specifically the Landry/Tyra... uh, stuff). Season 2 was also cut short by the writers strike and ends without a bang. I thought Seasons 3 & 5 were very good. The series finale was amazing, IMO. That's how you end a show. My wife & I chalk up this show as the best show we've ever enjoyed watching. (not necessarily the "best show in TV history"... just as one we thoroughly enjoyed). Season 4 was actually a really interesting season... all new characters, which, aside from "Becky", end up being a really solid new cast to follow.
I thought this show was great. Cheesy and predictable at times, for sure, but the show was done in a way to make it the cheese respectable. Kyle Chandler was great in this series IMO.

Would agree season 2 was the weakest. I was surprised at how well seasons 4 and 5 went, considering new characters were introduced.

Breaking Bad, Justified, and Homeland are great shows. I have back tracked and am half way through season 1 of Deadwood, and so far it looks like it'll turn out to be a pretty good series.

Cheers.

I understand what you guys are saying after watching episodes 9-11. They spend a lot of time developing characters and relationships. IMO it was still good just not as fast-paced and climatic as the first half of the season. Even great shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Wire have slow episodes with building story lines followed by flurries of activity. Part of the reason why TV series have completely replaced my interest in movies is the amount of time that TV can spend on characters and relationships. Then it is much more powerful when major action occurs.

We're going to watch the last two episodes of season 2 tonight. Got some cold Warsteiner Dunkel and I'm ready to go.

The last two episodes were solid, you will like them.
I especially loved the teaser at the very, very, very, very end of the Season 2 finale... which alludes to Season 3. {Exciting!}

Yeah but those shows have well crafted characters that are actually likeable or are interesting. The characters on The Walking Dead are an awful assortment of shallow caricatures, knuckleheads and the generally unlikeable, seemingly incapable of demonstrating any nuance, depth or growth. Now don't get me wrong, I like some characters on The Walking Dead but most of them are essentially zombie fodder because they are already half-way there. You can get away with that in an action packed zombie movie. A weekly TV show requires something more.

The last few epis of the Walking Dead were great, and season three keeps up the pace. The truth to what MetalDude was saying is that most everyone is cannonfodder on the show, so why spend lots of time developing each character when they are just going to become a zombie anyway. LAZIEST WRITING EVER. just kidding. I see the prospective.

Speaking of The Walking Dead, lost amid all the talk of the Mayan apocalypse was this little bombshell. Originally posted on 12-21, heck I only came across it this afternoon....

Which way will Kirkman and Co. take things?
