Default Getzlaf or Cheechoo

Getzlaf is on the verge of breaking out after a solid 58 point sophomore season and leading Anaheim in points the playoffs (I think). Cheechoo had an awesome 56 goal/93 point season two years ago, but dropped to 37 goals/69 points last year. Who would you take in a yahoo keeper league? What kind of overall potential does Getzlaf have. Can he reach 90 points in Anaheim playing with Corey Perry/Dustin Penner?

I think a poossible 90 points may be a few years off for Getzlaf. He had a good playoffs but history is full of guys who take a huge step forward in the playoffs only to take a small step back the enxt season.

Cheechoo will bounce back this year. My guess would be between 80 and 90 points.
If it were me I would take Cheechoo and then trade him at the end of next year for Getzlaf and others.

Getzlaf and Cheechoo are both on great lines. Cheechoo has the better centre. I prefer Cheechoo.

Cheechoo...him and a real happy big Joe are gonna be back to where they were two years ago, another 50 goal season for Jonathon. I think Getzlaf will max out around 75 points. He doesn\'t have a Thornton to play with.

Cheechoo without a doubt. In my mind, you always have to favor the guy that\'s gotten a rocket richard trophy and a near 100 point season over a guy that just has the potential to do so.

Cheechoo is amazing plain and simple, and just because both he and eric staal had down years, doesn\'t mean that they are any less valuable.

Not only that, but Getzlaf is a power forward. These days, power forwards have much lower ceilings than in the past. The new nhl favors the quick, skilled guys... guys like cheechoo.

Joe Thornton being around 3 more years is just icing on the cake.

How does Cheechoo having a down year mean that he isn\'t less valuable. The guy couldn\'t cut it on Thorton\'s line for the first half of the season last year. Thats why he got bumped off. He is definitley less valuable than he was at the end of last season. NO QUESTION!! Where as Getzlaf is starting to shine. I agree Cheechoo could come back and have a big year again. That is if he gets another shot to play with Thornton. Personally I hope they find someone else for Thornton myself because he got screwed by Cheechoo and Bell last year. Find him someone better!! The only reason I would stick with cheechoo is because he probably will end up on Thorton\'s line but if not get Getzlaf while you can!!!

This is tougher than it looks. Sure cheechoo has won the rocket award but so did nash and where has he been lately. i think another thing to consider is the status of what lines these guys will be playing on. Michalek sure looked good during the playoffs with thornton, does he push cheechoo down to the second line and therefore no cheechoo/thornton combo at all? also is Getzlaf ready to take that next step. the ducks are going to have 2 solid lines providing bert doesn\'t go down with a back problem and that PPG line looked like they had been playing together for years during the playoffs. they seemed to have the chemistry whereas cheechoo/thornton didn\'t. tough call either way but i think i\'d go with getzlaf even if it cost me another year of waiting, that kid was impressive and seemed to build more and more confidence as the playoffs went on.

I\'d take nash over getlaf any day too... lol anyone that can win the rocket richard trophy at the age of 20 like Nash did is worth taking a chance on. Despite his poor production of late, he still just turned 23 a month ago.

I honestly don\'t know why everyone\'s so high on getzlaf... Yeah he\'s good, but he\'s not elite... I don\'t think he ever will be. He\'s a good fit for the ducks as they are right now. If the ducks change, and/or he leaves town I wouldn\'t expect more than 60 points from him.

I don\'t know why anyone would take him over either one of these scoring trophy winners in a keeper league... maybe in a seasonal league, but not long term. No way.

Cheechoo definitely. I really like Getzlaf, but Cheechoo will be more rewarding for the next few years for sure.
