When was this? When he went from STL to EDM?

Didn't the Bruins get Ranford out of that exchange? Pretty interesting to look back at that love triangle...

Well Ranford started in Boston(1985-1987), went to Edmonton(1987-1995), then back to Boston(1995-1997), then off to Washington, Tampa, Detroit, and then back to Edmonton(1997-2000)

But yes, you are right ericdaoust, we did get Ranford instead of the rumored CUJO..

Hate to be a skeptic killjoy, but although I see Cujo is a great player I also feel that some of his stats look better now simply because he played for so long. He's kind of the goalie version of Dave Andreychuk - a compiler. I'll never get past the 51 shutouts in over 940 games - that puts him in top 5 all time for games played but not even in the top 20 for shutouts.

Shutouts are a random stat and I feel it is irrelevant in evaluating a goalie. Wins, losses, save percentages and achievements are more of a factor.

Hate to throw shit onto the pile, but I couldn't agree more.

I watched Cujo a ton (live) for several years when he was a Leaf and I was never particularly impressed.

He's like Osgood... average goalie who has impressive numbers because he's played a shit load of games... the exception being he didn't have the benefit that Osgood did of playing for a top tier team his whole career.

He was awersome for the Blues and Oilers though, I think his move to Toronto was where he didn't shine as much.. And him wanting to go to Detroit(a contender) was a horrible move and he lost alot of fans with that move..

Yeah most people aren't looking at his stats and saying he was the big thing of his time. He was a difference maker for a lot of years, and contrary to popular belief there are people who saw him during his career. It's not just stat buffs that like him.

The problem with Wins and Losses is they're tied to games played. Save percentage is helpful, but looking at that but not GAA and Shutouts seems selective to me. Plus, even though awards are not something that a goalie can directly control, they do matter in measuring a goalie's legacy, and they show that Joseph was a top tier netminder for a number of years, but never truly elite enough to have a long-lasting legacy. Plus, there's the first reaction test. When you hear a goalie's name, can you immediately say he was amazing. With Hasek, Brodeur, Roy - it's a no brainer. With Cujo, you kind of have to say "well, hmmmmmm......." That is telling.
