Great comments people , thank you Loch for your words , as well as bondons' wise observations.
Big Ev I'd have to partially agree with you , it does make a difference where you live and how "worldly" you are when giving an opinion on a topic. That said there are many wise Maritimers who unfortunately have little structured education and "over drinking" is a problem here , in my opinion. I never said everyone has driven drunk and agree that Dakster has been selectively interperting things to make his "case". To the law enforcement individual who rang in on this , thank you for the job you do. To the band member , thank you for your description of the end of the "party" scenario. It is a far too familiar scene. I'm glad I spoke up here , if nothing else it may make someone stop and think about the realitiers of drinking and driving. The sad fact is that a much larger problem is joining the drinking & driving issue ; a new impairment is on a huge rise , texting and driving.I'm predicting that this habit will become a much larger issue than drinking & driving. So please lets stop the ball before it gets rolling any faster , STOP TEXTING & DRIVING! Keep it smooth....

It's not my opinion. It's like if you were living in Nunavut your whole life, you would think drug and alcohol addicts are the norm.

I wasn't referring to death rates from drunk driving, but those stats show that Saskatchewan, PEI, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and New Brunswick have the highest in the country and are far ahead of a place like Ontario, so my point stands that where you live will alter how you perceive the frequency of people driving drunk.
Curious, have you ever been to the Maritimes? |

What we've learned thus far:
P.E.I. has the most educated drunk drivers in the country. Some (not necessarily many, and certainly not most) have anger management issues. Some (not necessarily many, and certainly not most) think it appropriate to make generalizations about whole groups of people. Riley Sheahan is a drunk, which is to be expected given that he is of Irish descent --though still somehow surprising since he has gone to University and has never been to the Maritimes.

Edit: Never mind. I now realize that this was in reference to the charts re: education levels. Last edited by Kudelskis Krushers; 11-21-2012 at 01:46 PM. |

It's the whole stereotype thing. ******* are lazy, ****** are drunks, ****** are stupid. If everyone's thinking like that about other people then we live in a messed up society. I'm definitely not much of a drinker, but working late shifts at a hospital I have felt tired driving home after being on-call all weekend (Fri-Sun) so usually stay at the hospital if I feel I'm too fatigued. it's very tempting to drive the 10-15 mins home to sleep in your own bed and shower/change clothes instead of sleeping on a crappy hospital mattress with 1 lame pillow, and a window that doesn't shut completely in the winter. even know a colleague who crashed into a parked car going to work.
