Ah well, in the end I have to decide myself... Thanks for the advice though!
You don't say how many you keep at the end of the season - that could make a difference in advice given. I much prefer to ride a higher offensive guy as a keeper (which I think Faulk will be) and redraft grit. But if you are unlikely to keep Faulk then perhaps it is time to draft for grit.

I will not give any advice here Wotan, but 1 thing that I highly recommend is that you trade alot of your good player to a team in your league called the Executioners. It will make you feel better in the end, and if they win the title in your league you can then say you helped out.

Take this advice lightly, and welcome to the boards.

Bear in mind though that Bogo had wrist surgery at the end of August and is expected to be out much of the season, if there is in fact a season, so if you are concerned about this year, he's probably not your guy.

Personally, I'd pick up Andrei Markov.
The band-aid boy is the one defenseman that could jump out of the gates and put up 10pts in 10games.

There are a lot of solid guys on your waiver-wire..
When this is the case (lots of options) you take the one guy with the highest sex-appeal (fantasy-hockey-wise).
That player is Markov.

If he's injured to start the season... you can always pick up one of the other options, and most will still be there... so no worries about taking a risk on Markov.

Well... no.
SHP almost never factors in.
FOW won't factor in for defense.
So it's the base 6 categories (G/A/+-/PIM/PPP/SOG) + Hits.

As actual fantasy-value in this pool goes, the OP is going to want a defenseman that can chalk up a lot of HITS.

But what I'm talking about is "trade value".
If Markov gets off to a fast-start, he's got bigtime trade value.
Much higher than anybody else in that group.

The point is... a healthy-Markov would be "perceived" as the most valuable (by far) of that group. He'd be snatched up in an instant from the waiver-wire if he catches fire.
And even with Hits factored in... I bet an offensive-powerhouse Markov could be more valuable than all these guys.

Grabbing a guy for HITS can be done at any time... these guys are ALWAYS around. I often just grab a guy based on having a 4-game week.
So anyways... Markov for the sex-appeal. (Not for the actual fantasy-value).
