Default 4th overall pick... who to take

Should i target Jones with that pick or take a little gamble on Nichushkin?

I am somehow leaning towards picking Nichushkin, knowing very well that Jones
is the safer pick, but Nichushkin being hyped as the next Malkin kinda makes me think hard on this.

What would you guys do?

With your scoring system I'd be tempted to take Jones if he's still available. There are enough categories where he can make a difference without needing to be a big point producer right away. My only issue there is that you are pretty stacked on D. Obviously you take the best player available when there is a big gap but here I'm not so sure that there is. The track record on defensemen making immediate impacts is pretty limited. I'd consider shopping the pick hard for an upgrade in goal if I was going to do anything as that's your weakest position and your team should be near competing now.

Shopping that pick for a goalie might be your best choice as you do look about ready to compete. But if you're set on keeping the pick and drafting someone, I would take Elias Lindholm over both Jones and Nichuskin. You've got a good young group of defensemen already, and there's just a lot of unknown with Nichu since he currently has a contract for another 2 years in the KHL.

Lindholm is just a small step outside the Mac/Drouin/Barkov tier imo, and along with Nichu he's still in that elite or close to it tier. Just a lot less uncertainty around Lindholm compared to Nichuskin.

A guy like Jones, shouldn't be available with your scoring stats. I agree with Deniro, you should maybe trade this pick for a guy who really want it for a elite goaltender ..

Thanks for the responses so far

I should maybe mention that i also have the 3rd overall pick which will most
likely end up being barkov, as i expect mac and drouin to go 1 and 2.

Does that change anything for you guys?

I´d probably take the best and "safest" approach and pick Jones. With you current D you can sit him on your farm team for at least one year. He really seems to be as good as advertised, and considering almost all scouts have him
going before drouin and mac, there´s gotta be a reason for that.

If you end up with Barkov and Jones, your team is in a very good position, as it looks good already.

Your weakest position indeed is goaltendig as the guys before me already pointed out, but with a little luck, you could end up having 3 starting goalies. Yeah, they are all on bad teams, but maybe you can use one of them + another prospect to upgrade there.
