Default Crosby deal...

So I pulled the trigger on two trades between yesterday and today and I'm curious to hear some feedback.

It's a keep 8 h2h $ league

4C 4LW 4RW 6D 2G 6BN

G,A, +/-, PIM, SHP, SOG, HIT, BLK, SHP, / W, SO, SVS, SV%, GAA

I traded,

Justin Schultz and Josh Harding

for

Brian Elliott and Eric Wellwood

and today,

Jeff Skinner, Loui Eriksson, David Perron and Duncan Keith

for

Sidney Crosby and Alex Tanguay

which brings my team to,

C- Crosby, Malkin, Duchene, M. Koivu
LW - Vanek, E. Kane, Tanguay, (waiver pick-up)
RW- Callahan, Okposo, Clutterbuck, Little
D - Doughty, Enstrom, Leddy, Carlson, Larsson, (waiver pick-up)
G- Pavelec, Elliott
BN- Tarasenko, Grigorenko, Hanzal, Wellwood, Hemsky, Lindback

Waiver LW's I could pick up:

Booth, S. Kostitsyn, Wilson, B. Pouliot, McGinn, Anisimov, Higgins, Boedker

Waiver D to pick up:

McBain, O'Brien, Daley, Sbisa, Nikitin, Gorges, Kuba, Vlasic

So my question... Does this trade make me better or worse??

My keepers went from,

Malkin, Skinner, Eriksson, Vanek, Callahan, Kane, Keith, Pavelec

to

Crosby, Malkin, Kane, Duchene, (Vanek/Callahan), (Doughty/Enstrom/Leddy), Pavelec, (Elliott/Lindback) - Depending on the eventual season they have.

Thoughts?!

I personally like both trades a lot..

In the first one, you give up schultz, but in a keep 8 you wont be keeping him anyways... plus you get some much needed help in net with a big upgrade from harding to elliot (make sure to monitor the starts between him and halak once the season gets going again).

In trade 2, getting crosby.. dont really have to say much more..
You didnt even give up anything that substantial... and in a limited keeper, getting the best player in the trade is always what you should strive to do.

I'd probably pick up gorges if i were you.. hes a shot block monster..

Also, I'd probably keep Callahan>Vanek (will fill most of your stat categories much better), Doughty for D, and Lindback in net.. but obviously like you said, it all depends on how they do during the season

All in all, well done on the trades

Upon reading your post I proceded to Google Eric Wellwood. That's not a good sign. Elliott isn't the goalie his stats say he is, but you desperately needed an upgrade at goal and you got one. Really hurts to give up Schultz but it was needed.

The second trade improves your keepers by adding arguably the best player in the world, but pretty much guarantees you won't win your league this year. Your secondary scoring took a massive hit there.

He's buried under far better young players in Philly. It's not so unreasonable to not know every player out there. Especially ones who are fantasy irrelevant.

I don't like the first trade. I'm not sure Elliot is an upgrade over Backstrom. Backstrom is a band-aid boy and I also expect Minny to give Harding atleast 25-30 starts. Giving up Schultz for Wellwood is just bad. Wellwood will never be anything more than a 3rd liner at best!

But, you take that all back by getting Crosby. In a limited keeper, having Crosby is incredible. Having Crosby & Malkin is just plain sick!! Good job. You have up some good players but nothing elite.

Now fix your goaltending. As soon as one of Elliot/Lindback hit a hot streak move him along with one of your borderline keepers who's hot and upgrade your G. Same thing for Pavelec, but if you can get a Varlamov-Pavelec duo, along with Crosby-malkin-callahan-Doughty, I think your team will be a contender very soon.

At first I really didn't like the first trade, but then seeing you only keep 8 I don't mind it from a win-now stand point.

Crosby deal I like, not often can you get him without moving a Malkin/AO/Stamkos typ player, in fact you didn't move a player I'd consider in the top 20, so well done.

trade 1- not a big move. I like harding more as a keeper since i doubt elliot can repeat last year, but shultz is a good player, but not a keeper, so it does not really make a difference.

trade 2- wow. crosby in a limited keeper is gold. This year you lose out a little, but even a 50 point winger makes up for the loss in points. AS a keeper it gives you more options. Lindback or elliot could be good keepers, and i would have been tempted to keep Doughty over Keith to start with (big age difference)

If I had the chance to add Crosby as one of my 8 keepers, I would be quite content with not winning this season. That said, in a league where moves are not limited, or not strictly limited, you can sometimes work wonders with a few shaky spots in your lineup. If Eric Wellwood is cold, and Kyle Wellwood is hot, drop one for the other. Then when Wilson starts to show positive signs, drop Kyle for him. If Wilson is still looking good in a few weeks, see if anyone in your league wants to trade a decent pick for a former 7th overall pick who is "finally having his big breakout". Then grab whichever 33-year old third liner happens to be on a massive scoring streak that week, and ride him 'til he's cold. You may not win, but you can come damn close. The year I dealt four guys for concussed Crosby, I still managed to come in 3rd in my H2H league.
