Seems to me like you'd be able to get a much better return from a younger team by trading Tedenby+Loktionov or something. The net result would probably be better than anything else you're considering at the moment. Am I way off here?
I definitely see pros to both sides of the coin. My worry is if I add another rook, I'm losing "now production" as opposed to adding a guy like Stajan. I need more "now production" with this add, as I'm already stocked with young talent. Doesn't need to be keeper worthy, I'm more concerned with getting immediate production right now.

Seeing as Loktionov is probably going to be moved when the CBA is resolved, I would argue that he's likely to have just as much "immediate" value, if not more than guys like Stajan and Lombardi. It's really dependent on what kind of approach you'd like to take, but the way I see it Loktionov and Tedenby both have a good shot at playing top-6 minutes this season - not to mention the fact they provide a modicum of long term value.

I'd also echo the sentiments of hockeyHitman; there's gotta be a point of diminishing returns v. Future returns when it comes to keeping players in your format. I would much rather keep promising prospects with legit top-6 upside (Loktionov, Tedenby) instead of role players like Stajan, Lombardi etc.

Seems like you need to assess your team / league and come to a decision on where you stand on this prospect vs. depth guy dilemma. I, for one, would choose prospects. Upside, upside, upside.
I'm a huge Phish fan too...bravo

You also have to consider what you want as "now production".

Stajan has posted 32, 32, and 29 points the last 3 seasons, granted a few of them were injury riddled, but still... Gone are the days where he's a 45-50 point talent.

So I mean when you kinda go and say I want "now production", is Stajan really giving you more production now than a rookie would?

Phish has pretty much been the pinnacle of my life since I was 14 years old, an my greatest failure in life is not having been born earlier - so I could have seen shows in the 90s. I'll have some +Rep for you later.

Also consider his team environment too.

You got Iggy, Tanguay, Cammy, Hudler, Glencross, Cervenka, Giordano, Wideman, Babchuk, Backlund, Stempniak, Comeau and Stajan... So I mean you kinda take into consideration depth charts, he's probably around 10-12 in terms of scoring...

If you're in that range, from the research that I've done, you're looking at about 3-4% of a team's totals...

The Flames have averaged 578 points as a team during the last 3 seasons, 3-4% is roughly 20 points...

You're not going to get much "now production" from Stajan compared to a rookie...
