Since there is no hockey being played I figured it would be fun and educational to seek outside help in rounding out my farm team. League categories in sig. It's a huge league (23 on pro roster, 27 on farm) with a ton of depth but there are still some decent options out there which is why I am here right now. Here is the farm (eligibility is 160 GP for skaters, 80 GP for goalies) along with a comment about what I like about each player:
LEFT WING Brad Ross (TOR) - 706,667 (3) - 0 GP PTS/Hits/PIM combo Marek Hrivik (NYR) - 685,000 (3) - 0 GP Hit or miss Alex Guptill (DAL) - Unsigned - 0 GP Nice rookie college season CENTER Cory Emmerton (DET) - 533,333 (2) - 73 GP In NHL Peter Holland (ANA) - 1,295,000 (2) - 4 GP Upside Tyler Johnson (TB) - 900,000 (2) - 0 GP Nice AHL numbers Philip McRae (STL) - 854,166 (1) - 15 GP Power forward Mark Scheifele (WPG) - 1,594,167 (3) - 7 GP Top prospect Jim O'Brien (OTT) - 637,500 (2) - 34 GP Decent combo player Caleb Herbert (WSH) - Unsigned - 0 GP Nice rookie college season Corban Knight (FLA) - Unsigned - 0 GP Hockey Prospectus high on him RIGHT WING Ben Smith (CHI) - 562,500 (2) - 19 GP Nice AHL numbers Zach Budish (NSH) - Unsigned - 0 GP Power forward Matej Stransky (DAL) - 750,000 (3) - 0 GP Upside Michael Ferland (CGY) - 798,056 (3) - 0 GP PTS/Hits/PIM combo Ryan White (MTL) - 687,500 (1) - 63 GP Hits/PIM combo, in NHL J.T. Brown (TB) - 1,350,000 (1) - 5 GP Close to NHL-ready, good combo player DEFENSEMEN Alexander Urbom (NJ) - 856,667 (2) - 13 GP Upside Tim Erixon (CLB) - 1,750,000 (2) - 18 GP Upside Michael Stone (PHO) - 845,833(1) - 13 GP Showing good signs Torey Krug (BOS) - 1,704,167 (2) - 2 GP Upside Mark Borowiecki (OTT) - 610,000 (1) - 2 GP PIM/Hits/BkS combo with a few points Frank Corrado (VAN) - 599,444 (3) - 0 GP Making some noise lately GOALIES Richard Bachman (DAL) - 625,000 (1) - 19 GP In NHL, behind injury-prone starter Edward Pasquale (WPG) - 712,500 (1) - 0 GP Nice AHL numbers Niklas Svedberg (BOS) - 1,000,000 (2) - 0 GP Upside Philipp Grubauer (WSH) - 607,222 (3) - 0 GP Upside Are there any players in this list that you feel are absolutely not fantasy relevant and should be dropped immediately? Note that I am not worried about depth at individual positions (yes I know my LW "depth" is thin). I am looking to produce players that can help me at some point. Just looking for some outside opinions to plan my next moves...

I'm not particularly fond of McRae, Smith or Urbom to be completely honest with you.
I would assume most prospects are taken in this league, but can you give me some names of guys that you've thought about signing lately? That might give me a better idea of who is available for you.

This offseason we added a cap to promotions/demotions so I pillaged the wire to add players with upside in this format instead of all the NHL-ready players I had last year. Guptill, Herbert, Knight, Smith, Budish, Stransky, Ferland, Borowiecki, Corrado, Pasquale and Grubauer were all waiver wire claims. This is what is left:
Joonas Jarvinen Matt Kassian Brad Malone Cade Fairchild Evan McEneny Maxim Kitsyn Chay Genoway Reece Scarlett Justin Fontaine Ben Holmstrom Matt Corrente Jesper Fasth Andrew Yogan I agree that I am iffy about Ben Smith but I am not sure about dropping Urbom or McRae. I am definitely open to ideas though.

Thanks, Carcillo.
Eric, I would recommend grabbing Nesterov and dropping Corrado as your final move. I've suggested three moves that I think will improve your farm team.

I'd pickup Andrey Markarov (BUF - G) as hes a goaltending prospect with a lot of upside, even if it takes him 5-6 years to get there, your format seems to allow you to sit on young players, and whats better than a potential starting goaltender? I'd definitely grab him and drop one of Emmerton, Ferland or O'Brien, as none of those guys will be top six forwards or make much of an offensive impact at any point. If Fasth(who supposedly legally changed his last name to "Fast") does come to the NHL, he'll be a player. 3rd liner at worst, he is incredibly fast and strong skater...seems to be in the mold of Carl Hagelin.
Nesterov is one of TB's more hopeful defensive prospects, the position they're thinnest at as a whole...I'm reading good things on Corrado though and I think Angus is pretty keen on the kid too right now, so I don't know that I would drop him just yet. I'd probably drop Emmerton and O'Brien and add Makarov and Fast, for sure. p.s. - Whatever you do, I'd hold onto Scheifele/Holland/Budish/Johnson/Stone and your goaltenders for sure, especially Grubauer.

Yeah, I agree with Hitman. Why not take a flyer on Makarov?
I'd drop Emmerton for Makarov.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm not entirely sure of what I want to do here. I'm not sold on giving a farm spot to a guy for 4-5 years (Makarov). I just don't operate that way, but maybe I can be sold on it. I think Nesterov is alright, and I also like Yogan and Fast(h). Who would be your drop priority order? The GMs in the league are very savvy so it's tough to find good prospects on the wire but I am always checking it out to see how I can improve.
