Wanting feedback for this team I just finished drafting. The mindset I had while drafting was looking at the 2013-14 season, and not "this" season(as I don't believe there will be a "this" season at all. So the team obviously very heavy on youth. I think I might need to improve my defense somehow...I've already began by shipping off Craig Smith for Joe Morrow, in a deal I feel is a good trade for my team. Any feedback/critique is certainly welcome.

In a 12-team league, this looks like a bottom 3 team... sorry.
I'm not seeing any position I would grade as a B or an A in a 12-team league. When you are talking about "at least a year"... there's even the possibility that Shea Weber finds his way out of Nashville (as he desired) late next summer. This would really hurt Rinne's value. I also believe that the departure of Ryan Suter comes as a slight hit to both Rinne & Weber's value - so I find it curious you drafted both. I'm going to assume your top 5 picks were: Rinne, Kopitar, Weber, Benn, Skinner. I don't know... I'm not particularly fond of this group. In a couple leagues I recently drafted: 12-team H2H top 8 picks: Tavares, Nash, Backes, Letang, Benn, Getzlaf, Niemi, Luongo 14-team Roto top 8 picks: Tavares, E.Staal, Zetterberg, Nash, Couture, Pavelec, Anderson, Nabokov 15-team Roto top 8 picks: Malkin, Bryzgalov, Parise, Varlamov, Gaborik, Green, Streit, Semin When I look at your team, I don't see the talent that you should have in a 12-team league, so even if you are planning for 2013-2014, the team looks pretty weak. And Holtby is no-sure thing as the CAPS #1 goalie. I'm curious what round you grabbed him in. With daily changes, I would have definitely also secured three #1 goalies. Lehner might be the guy in a couple years... but I'm doubtful on this year or next. Could be a good team in 2014-2015... but I don't see you finishing top 3 in either of the next two years. |

It's a deep league, for sure. But I have to agree with Pengwin (though I'm not as pessimistic, but ya, not top 3 for two years is fair). The star power just isn't there.
One point that worries me greatly is the minimum 4 goalie games per week. You have Rinne and 4 guys who might start, but might be backups. There's a good chance you will really struggle to reach 4 starts in some weeks this season. However if Holtby secures the top spot and Bernier is moved, you're laughing, but it could just as easily work out poorly. I also wouldn't have drafted 13 defensemen if you're only starting 6 per week. I would much rather have the added forward depth and stick with 10 D max.

Centers (12)
Anze Kopitar (Kings) - not an elite player, but is a very good 80 point player, not a bad center 1 in a 12 team league, but not a great one Patrice Bergeron (Bruins)- i really do not like him since that team is so deep in C, and i think he may lose the line 1 slot at any time. He also just looks fragile Tomas Plekanec (Canadiens)- i guess a passible 3rd C, solid vet Patrik Berglund (Blues)- love this kids upside, and he should be able to play into your 3rd Center role by next year Sean Couturier (Flyers)- good upside grab, since you only start 3, better to try to land some future top 36 centers rather than a for sure NHL 3rd liner Tyler Bozak (Maple Leafs)- speaking of players who will never be a top 36 center Jonathan Huberdeau (Panthers)- another elite upside guy, good grab Nick Bjugstad (Panthers)- great upside Zemgus Girgensons (Sabres) this goes for the next 4 centers, they are all solid prospects, but i would trade all 4 for a top 20 prospect over keeping all 4 Brock Nelson (Islanders) Greg McKegg (Maple Leafs) Tomas Hertl (Sharks) Left Wingers (10) Jamie Benn (Stars)- agian, not an elite player, does everything well, but in fantasy that does not show off as well Tomas Fleischmann (Panthers)- not sold on him at all Ryane Clowe (Sharks)- nice 3rd option Steve Ott (Sabres)- great grit guy Clarke MacArthur (Maple Leafs)- not really a fan Alex Steen (Blues)- he is the best fantasy option on the blues. but that says more about the blues... remember when ed sprauge was an allstar for the pirates Josh Bailey (Islanders)- i doubt he ever figures it out Gustav Nyquist (Red Wings)- love the upside, and has a good shot at Eric Tangradi (Penguins)- not a bad bet later on, if he clicks with crosby or malkin you have a startable player Jason Zucker (Wild)- fluff Right Wingers (10) Jeff Skinner (Hurricanes)- i do not see the elite upside here either, but another boarderline 1/2 player. Blake Wheeler (Jets)- he could blossum this year, if he does he could be your best forward Martin Erat (Predators)- not very good in this format, i would not have even bothered with him Zack Kassian (Canucks)- another elite upside Derek Dorsett (Blue Jackets)- grit, and to be honest, i would start him over erat in this format Matt Frattin (Maple Leafs)- good upside Nino Niederreiter (Islanders)- great upside, but i am not sold Alex Chiasson (Stars) JT Miller (Rangers) Ty Rattie (Blues)- could be great, but i see mostly 3rd line upside Defenseman (13) Shea Weber (Predators) - elite so long as the preds do not take a step back Alex Goligoski (Stars)- good player Andrej Meszaros (Flyers)- not sold, but useasble Luca Sbisa (Ducks)- has abilityt o be a do it all D, but they are hard to predict Dmitry Orlov (Capitals)- love the upside, but he has to fight green and carlson for minutes TJ Brodie (Flames)- not a big fan, but still very good Ryan Ellis (Predators)- love the upside Philip Larsen (Stars) Simon Despres (Penguins) Matt Donovan (Islanders)- another guy i love in 2 years Mattias Ekholm (Predators) Joe Morrow (Penguins) Adam Clendening (Blackhawks) Goaltenders (5) Pekka Rinne (Predators) - great, but loses one of his top pair d Braden Holtby (Capitals)- fragile with a lot of competion, this team has have a lot of starting goalies float by in recent years Jonathan Bernier (Kings)- great prospect Jonas Gustavsson (Red Wings)- backup that could steal minutes Robin Lehner (Senators)- elite upside __________________ Overalll, i hate this team this year. You will finish in the bottom third this year, and there is a good chance you finish that low next year. There is upside. you have a ton of top end prosects. C- you have 3 elite prospects at the position, and 2 young #2 centers already on your roster. LW- Benn is a start, but you lack depth and i am not a big fan of the prospects here RW- Skinner and wheeler firm up the position as at least average for the next 5 years, Kassain will take another few years to really be fantasy relavent, you have a couple of very solid prospects. D- your best positon, but it is still very young G- Bernier and Lehrner seem to be your future There are a lot of trades i would be looking to make if i took this team over, first i put my window as 3 years down the road. Rinne would likely go in favor of an elite winger

To be blunt, I think you went too young. Most of the young guys you drafted are still prospects and won't be in the NHL for another year or two, let alone contributing fantasy relevant numbers.

I'd concur - too young. But that is done now, so looking ahead, I'd stick with this group for a year or two.
If you catch up to the competitors, that is great. And if not, you have a ton of value/assets to move for proven commodities to make your team more competitive now. Rebuilding isn't as fun as winning, but it is rewarding to build a team up from the ground. I find that keeper re-drafts tend to have teams constructed like this - many of these players won't be fantasy relevant for three years. But as I said, some enjoy the challenge of developing a winning team through patience and prospect tracking.

I'd be curious to see round by round picks or comparison to other top teams.
You have 1 established/promising star at each position, then a bunch of good/ solid but not great players, and then prospects. huberdeaus top prospect, but still may take a few years to develop ala Seguin, Duchene, etc.

I appreciate the feedback thus far, guys, even if I don't agree with some of it, while others are bang on. I'm perfectly content with being a bottom dweller for the next couple of seasons, especially considering one of those seasons will be a locked out one. I may have high hopes for my squad, but there are some tweaks I'd consider making, for sure. I actually thought my defense was my weakest position of all. Also, don't believe for one second Weber is leaving Nashville anytime soon, or that Rinne's worth depletes a significant amount with the loss of Suter. Between Josi/Ellis/Blum/Ekholm Nashville has plenty of offensive coming up to replace Suter's, and the system the team deploys under Barry Trotz will enable them to still be one of the leagues better defensive squads. I view Suter's leaving Nashville only slightly more impacting than when Dan Hamhuis bolted for Vancouver.

Out of those posted teams, Edmonton to me seems to be the strongest, easy.
He seems to almost have 2 top 10 players at each position (except goal) and some decent depth/prospects to back him up. Lots of solid youth. Weakest position seems to be goaltending, but he's serviceable there. That would be the team I'd want out of the ones you've posted.

Biggest problem are your goalies IMO compared to what the others got.
