Default Dynasty League - Draft Class 12 - Who to claim!?

Hey Guys,

Yahoo-League, team and stats see below. If you're wondering how I ended up with all these players. Well, I finished last the first two years, drafted Malkin when he didn't even say he'll play for the Pens and so on.
So, clearly, my time is now. Won the last two years and hopefully going to win the following years.

If there's any weakness on my team it's probably my D as Mike Green is underperforming, Ryan Whitney always injured (dropped him last season).

So let's come straigt to the point. I'll pick 8th Overall:

Players I target:

Yakupov
Baertschi
Granlund
Galchenyuk
Murray
Silfverberg
Brodin
Dumba
Grigorenko
Schultz
Tarasenko
Morrow

Criteria:
1) NHL Readiness
They need to play this year. An entire year "not available" makes no sense right now. So, Dumba already out?
2) Fantasy Points + HITS
I love players who can hit and also put up some nice numbers. Backes, Callahan, Landeskog. Loooove them!

And that's the crux. I don't know the rookies game yet. Of course you can look at the Penalty Minutes and therefrom take of it but, yeah, don't really know.

Players to drop:
1) Meszaros - for sure
2) Stastny or Hagelin - Love the way Hagelin plays, so I'll probably stick with him and drop Stastny 2nd cuz I don't think he'll reach 70 Pts ever again. He's not the face of the franchise anymore. Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly are.

How would you rank the players to target. I know Yakupov probably will be gone, but just rank em, you never know. Last year no one claimed RNH cuz nobody liked him.

Thanks a lot!

I like Hagelin but you have to keep Stastny over him. Stastny is much more proven, has a lot higher potential and is simply the better player with a lot higher trade value as well.

As for rankings:

Yakupov
Granlund
Schultz
Tarasenko
Baertschi
Silfverberg
Murray

I can't see these guys seeing much if any games this year so based on your criteria they're not options:

Galchenyuk
Brodin
Dumba
Grigorenko
Morrow

That is the most ridiculous roster I have ever seen posted on the forum. Are you playing with children? sheesh ...

Granlund, Baertschi, Tarasenko, Schultz if they need to play now.

Are there regular NHL players like Carlson, Orlov that you can target? They might contribute more at present.

Like I told you, I finished last the first two seasons, when half of my roster was NA
I agree that it looks ridiculous now... but I'm well okay with that.

Other available D:
- Souray (love him but can he still produce?)
- Pitkanen (owned him for 2 yrs, injuries made me drop him)
- Ryan Whitney (see above)
- Orlov
- Sbisa

Carlson is gone. As Sbisa was born in Italy and I'm also half Italian I almost have to own him.

Fantasy Pts wise I don't think Sbisa will have fewer points than Schultz f.e.

I would actually take a fundamentally different approach to this pick. Since your team is essentially "god mode" in the current NHL climate, I would be stockpiling future contributors with this draft class, looking for the Schultzes and Dumbas who will be quality contributors to your squad in the near future. You are much better off taking the BPA stud prospect than just going for guys who are "NHL ready."

Is the production from a rookie draft pick really going to make the difference in your season? Likely not. It seems to me like you ought to go after Dumba here. You could probably use another D-man who has legit point potential (and physicality) and Dumba fits the bill. If you're looking for basic "NHL ready" rookie type production, get that on the waiver wire.

Quick ranks (Long term upside):

Yak
Granlund
Tarasenko
Grigorenko
Galchenyuk
Baertschi
Silfverberg

Dumba
Schultz
Murray
Morrow
Orlov
Brodin

IMO Dumba is your best bet to provide long-term stability to an already star-studded roster. You could always grab a forward like Grigorenko -- enormous upside yet people seem to hate on supposed flaws in his work ethic etc. -- and hopefully hit a home run.

Cheers and good luck with your season (as if you needed it).

I actaully agree with the direction, you are so stacked that you really should be looking more to locking up a future star rather than a guy who may put up 40 this year, and top out at 60.

This is also the year to do it, without a season for sure, most of the rookies from this year will be more ready next year. One of my drafts was crazy, we keep 20, and redraft 5. So of the 80 picks in the redraft about 60 of them were players under 25 (and most of those were recently drafted guy). Almost all of us viewed it as a chance to take a year of growing pains from a rookie for free (as a note i took connolly, silfverberg, gerbe, matt martin and cody eakin.... matt martin since we count hits, and i he fell into the 4th redraft round so i thought it was worth the gamble that we have a season).

Thanks for the input.
I really do not think Silfverberg is NHL-ready. He crushed a "men-league" last year, sure, but just 10 Penalty Minutes and so far just 2 Points in 5 AHL-Games.

I really think he needs to develop his physical game first though I haven't seen him play but that's what you read a lot.

I don't think there's much of a wrong selection here. Building for the future might be smart.

As a side question: Why roster so many D-men? How many do you have to start to justify carrying them over a forward who can produce at a higher clip?
