You have the first two but you haven't beaten the one that's vastly better than the mediocre sequel? Why the hell are you posting here? Get your ass over to that game and beat it right now!

While you're at it, you get your hands on System Shock 2, which is the predecessor to the BioShock games and so many times better than those two combined that it's not even funny. Get your hands on that, download the reskin/high res pack with new models and whatnot. That game is one of the best games ever and no BioShock game is good enough to lick its boots.

After the first day or so of people creaming their pants over this game, the more rational reviews have come in and the verdict is that it's a good game, but it has some serious flaws in the combat and there are a bunch of logical holes in the game world that weren't there in the first BioShock. Cool ending with some sci-fi balls but very linear game, unlike the first one. Seems like the general consensus among people that aren't complete bandwagon fanboys is that the first BioShock is still the better game in terms of gameplay balance, narrative and game world.

I thought the game world itself was more interesting than either of the previous Bioshocks, but the story felt forced and heavy-handed, trying to weave a plot through the narrative of early 20th century racism and nationalism. The gameplay is fun, if somewhat linear and derivative, with a few attempts to differentiate it (e.g. the Skyline). If that were what the game was actually rated on, I don't think its scores would have been as high as they were.

I think the game got overrated because of the subject material (i.e. racism/nationalism/religion), the examination of which is almost non-existent in games. The mere fact that the game tried to tackle those subjects led reviewers (most of whom I find think of themselves as being at or near the front of the evolution of games) to give more weight to the material than it deserved. It was neither an intelligent nor a unique take on the subject; more or less the equivalent of a Grade 9 creative writing assignment by a student who thought they were clever.

It was fun to play through it once and watch the story unfold, and the production values (graphics, sound, etc.) are outstanding, so it's absolutely worth a look. I think it deserves some credit for addressing the issues it addresses, but it shows how unsophisticated video game writing really is right now.

If you want GOOD writing in video games you should get your hands on The Witcher 1 and 2. Polish developers, but the games are just wonderful. Not the typical black or white good/evil BS. The entire story and world is a moral gray scale. It is absolutely beautiful (well, the second one, especially on a powerful PC) and the combat is challenging and fun too.

Also, check out The Walking Dead by Telltale Games. Best written characters in any game from last year.

Bioshock is a hell damn good game. I disagree with what dakkster has been saying. You seem to not know what a good game is.

I haven't played it. I'm just relaying what the review and gaming community has been saying about it. Aside from that, thanks for the laugh. You're funny.

Edit: Actually, are you talking about the original BioShock or Infinite? I've played the first two and System Shock 1 and 2. Also, where did I say that any BioShock game was a bad game? Meh. Your cluelessness just went from funny to boring. What a pity.

I started playing it this last weekend, it's mostly all good and I would srongly recommend it if you are a fan of the series.

The world they created in this edition is stunning and beautifully composed, it feels much more of a true sequel to the original than Bioshock 2 did (I wasn't a fan of the second one). IMO the original Bioshock was one of the finest games to be crafted in recent history, it was different, it had it's own unique gameplay for a FPS and above all it was twisted and ****ing creepy as hell, I haven't been that scared playing a video game in quite awhile, it was a masterpiece of gaming.

This version is similarly twisted (though in a different vein) but thusfar it lacks that creepy, 'hair standing up on the back of your neck' feel to it. But they revamped the gameplay and weaponry/powers enough that it feels like a new game. The only other thing I would suggest is to play it on hard if you are familiar with the series, otherwise it seemed too easy to me.
