Hey Dobberities,
A few of us in the Dobber community have been toying with the idea of launching a new fantasy hockey player news app and I'm just trying to gauge the interest from you guys on whether or not there is significant interest in developing such a program? And whether it would be worthwhile? Basically my idea is to have something similar to the Rotoworld Fantasy News app that already exists, but with better quality fantasy analysis. So rather than the generic "Player X has missed the last 10 games due to an ankle injury." headlines that you see from Rotoworld, I want to approach it more from the fantasy perspective. Player X has missed the last 10 games due to an ankle injury, but who has filled in the gap? Were there players that stepped up and garnered more ice-time during the absence? Another aspect that I want to tackle is why? "Player Y has been on a three-game point scoring streak." I want to look at the why. Is it due to an increase in ice-time, has the team's PP been clicking at a ridiculous pace? Is it because they are on a home stand? I'm basically targeting about 50-100 player updates daily throughout the day. What I'm also thinking of down the track is perhaps a "paid subscription" section with additional features such as bi-weekly projections, draft lists, Help! line (analyze my team, should I take this trade), weekly columns, daily studs and duds or customized player news. You would get quality advice from well known Dobberities like Shoeless, Gates, Laidlaw and others. Basically if you guys can participate in the quick poll, so that I can gauge general interest that would greatly help me make a decision in whether or not to take a leap of faith on this project or not.

Keep in mind, please don't just choose the "cheapest" option. If everyone chooses the free or $0.99 one-off option, the revenue generated won't be enough to offset the expenses and this project will not take off.
So please choose the option that you are most willing to actually purchase, so that will greatly help me gauge the validity of the project.

You could always get ads for it if there isn't enough revenue. I'd pay $3 thats about it, and definitely wouldn't get it if there was a subscription to optional features.

Yeah so the player news section will be absolutely free (after the initial dl cost of the app), basically that's just going to help me cover the costs of hiring a programmer and web hosting/server fees. I don't see a point in charging people for that when people are already getting it for free from Rotoworld.
I have been exploring the "ads" route, the thing with that is, it's really chump change to be honest. If I make the app free, it'd take me about 2 years just to cover the initial costing of developing the app. Considering that I'm planning on investing 4-5 hours per night myself into digging up news, the cost offset isn't worth it. I might as well just keep doing what I'm doing now with no obligations... What I am going to do it definitely expand more into the fantasy analysis/impact of the news rather than the generic "just reporting of news". The subscription features would be bonus things that are above and beyond just player news that might give you more of an edge over your fellow poolies. Basically it'd be similar to purchasing the Dobber Guides, which provides much more insight than the "free" daily columns that everyone who visits is getting. Subscriptions will be month-to-month (although I might think of maybe a discounted yearly subscription fee as an alternative), so the onus will be on me "earning my keep" month after month. If you don't like it after the first month of subscription, then you don't need to repeat the subscription. I'll be working with GmGates, Shoeless, Laidlaw and hopefully a few others to ensure that the subscription is well worth it.

Two bucks for me. It will be a complementary tool at best, as I will probably still get most of my info regularly.
Also, Android support is a must.

The phone is really useful for last minute goalie changes. I'd be very keen to be notified of that stuff via smartphone app, so I could change my lineup. Last minute injury scratches would also be very useful.

I chose $4.99 as I would pay that to help out an old school forum member such as yourself Gotlaid. I doubt that I would pay that much if it were a stranger. I also dont see me doing a subscription. Personally, I would be more likely to pay $10 for a one off payment. Subscriptions give me the shits.
